*** Warning: long post ahead with plenty of photos….

Recently, we went for our Annual Honeymoon Trip to Taipei, Taiwan. Actually, we were supposed to go Taipei last year, but didn’t make it there due to work commitment at that time. But heck, I need a break, so I finally took 4 days off from work, coupled with weekends we were at Taipei for 6 days.

As usual, we did not engage any tour operators to bring us around, but just free & easy and do a bit of self planning before that. I asked my colleague as well whom has been there several times, contacted a co-worker there as well to meet up with him and off I flew to Taipei.

Day 1 - Arriving @ Taipei

The flight departs at 10am. My 1st time flying with AirAsia X. Check in Q was long as usual. But I really love their Self Check In Booth. Totally hassle free. It took less than 5 mins to complete the whole check in & issuing of boarding pass. Then I just had to dump my luggage at the counter and off I go. So much more efficient compared to MAS Self Check In Machine, which have to key-in so many other details.

Mr. Hon was to meet me in Taipei, he flew direct from HCM to there with VN Airline, but only arriving at 9pm at night.

flight of steps waiting to serve the passengers

The flight to Taipei was rather pleasant. The seats are quite comfortable, I think even better than MAS planes. I seriously wouldn’t mind flying AirAsia X again. I was well prepared, knowing that I’m not gonna spend RM30 renting in-flight movies, hence I downloaded 2 movies into my iphone LOL. So I basically had my own in-flight movie haha…

AirAsia X

View from the plane, about to land in Taipei Airport

Arrived at Taipei closed to 2pm. TPE is rather far from town and it cost RM140 for cab!! Yes, cabs are expensive. Hence I did some checking and got more information from the hotel way before that. I took a bus instead :P. Only cost RM14. It was so far, but I dare not fall asleep as I could not anticipate when it’s gonna reach town. At the same time, I was sms-ing Mr. Hon the bus information so that he doesn’t get lost at night when he arrives.

I took some photos while I was in the bus. Very amazed with their traffic, no jam!! Not many tall buildings. Some part of the city looks rather old. Streets are pretty clean.

Busy street, yellow cabs that are very outstanding

Seriously loving the yellow cabs that stands out in the street

One of the many SOGO Department Store in Taipei

Finally, step down at bus stop No. 10. Was so hungry, I went to 7 eleven to get a quick fix. Their 7 elevens are like mushrooms, every other street you’ll see 1. They range of products they have there are pretty interesting too. They also have benches for you to sit and eat your food :). Nice ya.

The hotel, Ambience Hotel

I took a walk down the street to where our hotel located, Ambience Hotel. A small hotel, but the design is very modern & contemporary. Normal rates: RM400. I got a very good deal, buy 4 days, free 1 day. It came up to RM245/day. The hotel room is rather small, but nicely decorated with sleek looking furnitures & fittings.

the hotel room. Small & compact, but very nicely designed. All very modern. If you bring kids, they can even offer extra bed at no extra charge.

Oh, not forgetting the free wifi in the hotel.

It was already 5pm when I check-in. Tried to take a nap, but sms-es keep coming and was trying to make arrangement with my friend. It was drizzling as well, so I stayed in the hotel till close to 9pm. Then I took a walk from hotel to the bus stop to wait for Mr. Hon. Though it’s 10pm at night, you feel very safe walking on the street. And there are still many people on the street, probably just after work or night class.

Walking up the street from Hotel to bus stop, spotted Pizza Hut.

Some shops by the street.

The shop 50 X, that’s famous for bubble tea.

This the junction where the Eva Air Bus stops. Waited for Mr. Hon here. Next to this is a 7eleven.

Finally met Mr. Hon at 11pm, went back to Hotel to freshen up. Then we went to Huaxi Night Market. This is the nearest night market from hotel. It’s also known as Snake Alley Night Market, a place where they sell snakes & such as food ^.^. Of course we didn’t eat snakes lah…it was pretty late by the time we arrived there, most of the shops were gonna close. Just quickly grab supper & went back to Hotel.

Day 2 - Guang Hua Digital Plaza, Taipei Central & Keelung Night Market

Spotted this mailbox when we passed by some bike shops

Guang Hua Digital Plaza, your 1 stop IT Mall

Well, we were not supposed to go to Guang Hua Digital Plaza on 2nd day, but Mr. Hon insist we must go check it out since it’s so near from our Hotel. He brought along his DIGITAL SHOPPING LIST. We took the wrong route and ended up walking a whole lot more to arrive at this place.

Just like any other IT Mall, but rather organise and the stuff here are cheap!! I bought some rechargeable batteries for only RM30, for the same I paid RM80 in KL!! This place eventually became our hang out place O.o. We came here 3 times & spent most of money here!!

After 2 hours going around the IT Mall, we went back hotel to put our loots & then head to the nearest MRT Station.

The weather: RAIN!!!

All wet when we arrived at the MRT Station, cause I predicted the wrong weather and didn’t bring raincoat along with us.

Taipei 101 from Dr. S.Y.S. Memorial Hall

We went to Dr. Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall. From here, you can catch a glimpse of Taipei 101 as well. Actually nothing much to see here. This place has an auditorium often used for concerts and such.

There’s a big statue of Dr. Sun outside the Memorial Hall.

And on the inside, there’s another big statue of him, guarded by 2 GOH (Guard of Honour?). These guards do not even move an inch O.o. They do the changing ceremonial every 1 hour and we were lucky enough to witness it without having to wait for 50 minutes :P. More photos of the guard changing ceremony.

this the fella standing still for an hour

Oww…so sharp!!

The guard’s feet LOL

New guard taking place

As it was still raining we had our tea at the restaurant in the Memorial Hall. Hi-Tea with nothing much to eat except plenty of veg :P.

See his face, look so bored eating the veg hahaha

Some of the food we had during hi-tea.

I’m a fan of raddish when you simply boil them with soup. I ate a whole lot of this.

Oh, this rice is simply divine. Don’t know cook with what, but yummy.

More veg..erm actually those are non sauces, supposed to be spread for bread. Took it by accident.

Giant Omochi, giant grapefruit

Then we had the chance to walk around the Memorial Hall where there were some wall paintings where we try to figure out who are those characters.

Don’t know what principles is this?

See the far left, Gandhi is there!! That’s like the only person we could figure out LOL

I like this one. Looks like the Expandable Movie Poster. I purposely ask Mr. Hon to stand like one of them.

During the Japanese occupation?

Dr. S.Y.S. Memorial Hall from far

Finally the rain stopped and by 4pm+, we took a walk to Taipei 101. 2nd world tallest building after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It was quite a distance, but Mr. Hon can really walk!!! I’m already limping from behind.

Taipei 101. Clear skies compared to earlier it was so gloomy. Photo taken while we were still far.

Nearer to Taipei 101. The taxis are all parked outside the road, I love the perspective of this photo how the taxis are lined up against the Taipei 101 Building. You can’t see the taxis cause I’ve watermarked that area LOL.

The 1st 5 floors of this Taipei 101 consists of shopping mall. Then you can take the fastest elevator to the 88th Floor where the observation deck is located.

Shopping outlets like Pavillion/KLCC

SInce I’m here, I insisted to go up to 88th floor, but Mr. Hon didn’t want to. He says a waste of money..cis..So I went up there alone, took some photos, and came down.

Steel structure supporting the building. Ruyi shaped don’t-know-what-you-call holding the steel bars. Though the shape of each ruyi at Taipei 101 is traditional, its metallic interpretation is plainly modern.

Think this the 4th floor, before reaching the floor where you hop on to the elevator

Came very close to the damper baby, this building is designed to withstand earthquake & typhoon. It’s a pity that the weather was not so good on that day, hence the 91st floor were not opened. This the outdoor observation deck.

In the elevator…moving so fast I needed time to balance the pressure in my ears.

Taipei view from 89th floor

I like the yellow & green contrast of this shot.

Another view of Taipei from another side.

Look, I spotted a rainbow!! Lucky me ;).

Damper baby at 88th floor

This the floor on the way to see the damper baby. There’s some meaning to it, but didn’t have time to stop and read. It changes every few seconds with different pictures. Cool.

After the quick dive & tour at Taipei 101, I met up with my friend and he took us to Keelung Night Market, very far from the city and not reachable by MRT.

Keelung Night Market

Tried some famous local delicacies, as recommended by my friend. You definitely need a big stomach to take in all sorts of food sold here.

A famous Temple. This is where the start of the Keelung Night Market.

First stop, went here..to eat…

this…notice the white rolled sheet. It’s like thicker version of chu cheong fun rolled. Put in soup with cabbages, raddish (yum yum) & some prawn paste ball, fish paste ball. I likey :).

Then we went to this stall..and had..

this!! Fried eel in soup. Something different, nice too :)

We were so full we decided to stop eating and just walk around the night market.

Hand made popiah skin :)

Walking towards the Harbour. A quieter street away from the Night Market.

Keelung City Hall Building

Night view from the Harbour. Didn’t bring my tripod, just using my shaky hand LOL.

We also took a walk to the harbour as well as to the top of the hill to get a good view of Keelung itself.

We ate this before we left the Night Market. Seriously, I don’t know what’s this. It’s transparent looking like sago+flour. They just scrap it out from a huge tong (like those tau foo fah tong) then add some sauce, some garlic, some veg. That’s it. Not to my liking, but something interesting to try if you happen to go to this market. Yeah, you can only find it here.

View of Keelung from up hill

That’s the end of Day 2.

Day 3 - North covering Beitou & Danshui

Lots of MRT, lots of walking. We walk to MRT everyday to start our journey with. Takes about 10 mins to get there from hotel. On the way, we see some interesting stuff. MRT is really convenient in Taipei. Even more convenient than MRT in Singapore!!! Super many stops, super frequent, super long…I’m very impressed with their MRT system.

The church. One and only church I spotted during my trip there.

A park that we passed by, with Mr. Hon’s name in it :P

Nice building with lovely butterfly motives.

Petrol station, with lots of love :).

This is where we board the MRT

We visited the National Palace Museum in the morning. Take a MRT to Shihlin station. Then take a cab from there.

If you come to Taipei, this is a must go tourist attraction!! It is the national museum of the Republic of China, (erm but located in Taiwan :P) and has a permanent collection of over 677,687 pieces of ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks, making it one of the largest in the world. Most of these items are collections from the Forbidden City which were moved to Taipei during the Cultural Revolution.

No photos are allowed!!

The National Palace Museum main artifacts categories are:

  • Bronze
  • Painting
  • Jades
  • Ceramics
  • Calligraphy
  • Rare books
  • Documents
  • Curios
  • Pottery

The museum is said to house some 93,000 items of Chinese calligraphy, porcelain, bronzes, landscape paintings, portraiture and figurines from Beijing’s Forbidden City and 562,000 traditional books and documents. There are 6,044 bronzes, 5,200 paintings, 3,000 works of calligraphy, 12,104 pieces of jade, 3,200 examples of lacquer and enamel ware, as well as assorted carvings, fans, rubbings, coins and textiles.

With a collection of this size, only 1% of the collection is exhibited at a given time. The rest of the collection is stored in temperature controlled basement vaults.

Alot of interesting things to see, but you gotta have some patience & able to read Chinese words. So to us, it’s more like jut sweeping thru all the rooms and looking for what is interesting to see.

The notable item:

  • The “Jadeite Cabbage”: A piece of jadeite carved into the shape of a cabbage head, and with a large and a small grasshopper camouflaged in the leaves. The ruffled semi-translucent leaves attached is due to the masterful combination of various natural colour of the jade to recreate the color variations of a real cabbage. Very impressive piece I must say, but so small man O.o. Lucky never miss it LOL.
  • The “Meat-shaped Stone”: A piece of jasper, a form of agate, the strata of which are cleverly used to create a likeness of a piece of pork cooked in soy sauce. The dyed and textured surface makes the layers of skin, lean meat, and fat materialized incredibly lifelike. Yes it look so real, you might have eaten it mistakenly!!!
  • Mini Curio Boxes. There are so many types on display, each of them at the size of less than 30cm. In it comes with all the treasures, so tiny I bet it will be lost if you were to ask me to keep it.

We left this place at about 1pm. Had lunch nearby Shihlin MRT Station, then head to Xin Beitou Station.

My lunch: Some veg, a piece of black pepper pork meat & some vegetarian

Mr. Hon’s lunch. Giant chicken drumstick, some taugeh & some vegetarian.

Went for dessert at another shop. Over ripe mangoes in shaved ice & sago. This one goes really well on a freaky hot day.

We waited for the MRT to Xinbeitou rather long. I guess when it’s non peak hours, the MRT frequency is lower.

Camwhoring at the MRT station.

I’m definitely not modelling for the train. Don’t know why Mr. Hon caught this pic O.o.

Beitou, known for it’s Hot Spring. Arriving at Beitou station, once we got off the MRT, this greeted us.

Some shops @ Beitou

Seriously, during summer, I wouldn’t recommend to come here. It’s freakishly hot walking under the sun to the Hot Spring Museum. Then continue the freaky walk to the Hot Spring for some hot bath. *Sweats*.

The Hot Spring Museum

The Hot Spring Museum from outside

Since we didn’t bring any swimming suit to join in the public Hot Spring, we rented a room for an hour to have a private Hot Spring dip. Almost terpengsan after dipping for 30 minutes. I can feel my heart beating double it’s usual rate.

Danshui

After the hot spring adventure, we head to Danshui. A must go for tourist. A lot of tourist attraction, but since we were there at 5pm, we didn’t go to all those places. We just spent the evening walking along the river where there’s a night market.

Outside the Danshui station

So full of people, so crowded!!

Each night market has its own specialty. This one is A-Gei & Shrimp Roll. Oops..we didn’t get to try A-Gei. But we definitely had some shrimp roll and many other food.

Some food I spotted at the Danshui Night Market.

Grilled sotong…slurps..No, didn’t eat this

Fried shrimp roll..ate this, nice!!

Ate this. Giant scallop cooked in soup.

Fried Japanese Taofu. Didn’t eat this.

Grill taufu with some sauce. Didn’t eat this.

Fried baby crabs & baby prawns. Yes we had these.

Sausages rolled in butter & flour batter & fried. Seriously high cholesterol food!! Didn’t eat this.

Don’t know what is this, giant Omochi?

Like our kaya ball, but this is quail egg version. Looks good eh :P. Didn’t eat this.

Ice cream that is tall enough to topple any time LOL. Didn’t eat this.

Taiwan sausages!! Must eat!! Don’t know the black one is made of what, but definitely prefer the normal ones.

More fried food. Didn’t eat this of course!!

Pororo on sale

Puppies. Taiwanese loves bringing their dogs for walk. They even go to temple, go into MRT. Basically everywhere!!

We continue walking and enjoyed the Sunset. I love the sunset here, beautiful!!

Sunset against the dock. People can board a ferry from here and go to the other side of the river, Bali.

I wanted to have a photo of the sunset & myself, end up having this.

Sunset, closer shot. See the people, walking at the dock towards the ferry.

We had our dinner here at one of the shop selling crabs. Crabs filled with roes!! Only cost RM12 for 2 steam crabs. Eat till you siao. We ordered 4 LOL.

Mr. Hon enjoying his crab.

Crab filled with roe.

Pike

Xiao Loong Pau, Taiwan version. Same as any other Xiao Loong Pau. But this is so cheap, the whole basket were full of it. Our whole dinner only cost us RM50 if I recall correctly!!

We continued walking after dinner. Mr. Hon spotted some beetles for sale at a pet shop. He ended up buying one, thinking of bringing it home for the kids. Unfortunately, it was dead the next day LOL. Poor fella, must have died of coldness in the hotel room.

One of the shop there were so many people lining up, but don’t know buying what.

More shops….

Taiwan roti bom?? Inside is filled with meat & 9 chai.

Cute looking pancake :).

Sausages, stuff with veg..looks yummy, but too full to try anything seriously…

This is for Vyktore, he loves Shark, hence I took this photo to show him :). Think this a sharksfin shop?

A very tiring Day 3. By the time we reach hotel, my legs definitely need massage!!

Day 4 - South East covering Maokong & Taipei Central again

Mr. Hon wants to go enjoy some Taiwan Tea. Hence I did some research and figured that the best place to go is Maokong. We travelled south east, all the way to Maokong Station, the last station on Wenhu Line.

Look how fast the people walking…

It was quite a long journey since Maokong is the last station. We took the MRT from Central.

Nothing to do, taking pics of each other in the MRT

See the boring look :P.

After the raining session on Day 2, it stopped raining till the day we leave Taipei. So hot that you can feel it burning your skin. Wrong timing to go Taipei :P. Somemore people was telling me it’s Typhoon season, no way man…a drop of rain also no where to be seen.

Where do you want to go?

From Maokong Station, we took a gondola right up to the Maokong Mountain. The zoo is also there.

Gondola ride was cheap. Think we paid RM5 per person, and took like forever to reach the top. 4KM apparently!!

From far, the only visible building is Taipei 101.

A temple, built on the mountain!!

Upon arrival, there are many tea house where you can sit down, sip some tea, enjoy some food. There’s a Tea Museum Mr. Hon wants to go. So we walk and walk and walk like no tomorrow and still couldn’t find the Museum. Then later realised we walked the wrong direction..shesshhh!!

Cat statues at Maokong

Dainty tea shop.

Chairs in the teashop.

Spotted some flowers outside the teashop.

Ohh..I love this, wish I could bring it back as my props for newborn photoshoot

Cafe sighboard

A cafe by the mountain side. They converted an old junk to a cafe. Cool…

Temple @ Maokong

Too tired, we had lunch at one of the restaurant, took a rest before continue walking. In the end we took the shuttle bus to the Tea Museum which turns out to be a bit of disappointment. The museum only has 1 floor displaying some teapots made by some famous Taiwanese teapot makers.

Stir fried potato leaves

Century egg fried with taufu, peanuts & dried chilli…Love this!!

Thinly sliced Pork chop in sour plum sauce that is not sour enough :P.

Bitergourd fried with salted egg

Took the bus back to the Gondola station and took the Gondola back to the Maokong Station.

We went to Wufenpu next. This the place to go if you want to buy super cheap Taiwan clothings. Wholesale price even if you purchase 1 piece. As cheap as RM15!! But beware, the quality are rather low and the fashion there is pretty shocking LOL. Not for my age definitely. More suitable for the 20s. Do not go here on Monday because it’s only for wholesalers.

So I didn’t buy anything, just went from shop to shop LOL.

Then couldn’t decide where to go, we end up going to Taipei Central. Went window shopping at:

  • Shin-Kong Mitsukoshi Shopping Mall
  • Eslite Bookstore - heaven for bookworms, but not for us, cause most of the books here are in Chinese :(

Shin-Kong Mitsukoshi Shopping Mall. This is one of the Shin-Kong Mitsukoshi Mall. There were easily 4 to 5 of them at every corner of the junction!!

Taipei 101 at night.

At night the bright yellow gleam from its pinnacle casts Taipei 101 in the role of a candle or torch upholding the ideals of liberty and welcome. From 6:00 to 10:00 each evening the tower’s lights display one of seven colours in the spectrum.  The colours coincide with the days of the week. We were here on a Sunday night.

Day Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday
Colour Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet

The cycle through the spectrum connects the tower with the rich symbolism of rainbows as bridges linking earth to sky and earth’s peoples to one another.

Text taken from Wikipedia.

We head back to hotel and had early dinner at 8pm at a restaurant near our hotel. Then we went to Snake Alley Night Market again, hoping to see more things, but seriously, nothing to shout about except watching some snakes skinned alive!!

Day 5 - Ximending

We did some IT stuff shopping in the morning, then met up with a friend to have lunch. After that went to Ximending in the evening. A very slow day.

I brought my camera along to Ximending, only to realised that it was out of battery & I left the spare battery in the hotel..DUH!! So no photos of Ximending.

This place reminds me about Up Down 9 Street in Guangzhou.

Many youngsters hangout here, many shops, many restaurants.

We had some snacks while venturing into each and every shop that is note worthy.

If you want to shop here, you really have to spend time combing thru the shops and comparing prices.

The shops closes at 11pm, pretty late eh.

We spent a long time at one of the shop selling Japanese stuff (like 100 yen) and also Watsons. Mr. Hon bought an Oral B Electric Toothbrush at RM70 only!!

Day 6 - Going Home

Great, finally finishing this post :). Since we have to be in airport by 2pm, we didn’t go anywhere far apart from the Digital Plaza. Yes!!! Again!!! Even had our lunch here.

Then went back to hotel and pack the bag..half the load are IT stuff O.o.

Check out at 1230pm and took the bus to Airport.

Will I go back to Taipei again? Yes, definitely. We have plans to bring the kids here maybe year end. At the Maokong Station, there’s a complex, just for kids!! The Zoo is also located there.

There are loads of activities for the kids, no need to attend On Line Schools.

The environment is rather clean, quite kid friendly. The people are very friendly too. Just make sure you can speak some Mandarin and you can survive here.

But definitely must wait for winter to go there. No more summer trips to Taipei.

Jul 9

I thought I shall not bore everyone with my travel post. And since I’ve been to HCM for like umpteen times, there isn’t really much left for me to write about, except about their food LOL.

So I thought I should share some good restaurant over there, in case you are going, you can give it a try :). But do note that these recommendation are personal preference, you might like it, you might not.

Hue is a place in middle Vietnam, I’ve not been there, just close to there. I was at Danang for 4 hours this trip, which is pretty close to Hue. Their food, simple & yet delicious. Hue is known for spicy food.

During my recent trip, I met up with Mr. Hon there (Thank God he’s there, I don’t have to worry bout food LOL). So one of the night, we had dinner with his friends at Mon Hue Restaurant. My first time there, not my first encounter with Hue food though.

One of the recommended eat in this restaurant: Oyster Rice (the pic on the top right). I love this!!

It’s a simple bowl of rice, with a few pieces of rice crackers, topped with fried baby oysters, lots of Vietnamese vegetables, one good spoonful of chilli flakes (Vietnam type). Mix them up, add more chilli flakes if you lurve spiciness, and there you go. Looks like a bowl of Nasi Goreng Vietnam LOL.

Beware, only eat this if u can stand the oyster fishy smell.

A Vietnamese meal is never complete without some Nem (Spring Roll). We ordered 2 varieties. I think it’s Chicken and Beef on sugarcane. Slice the meat out and place them nicely on the rice paper, dump some leaves and whatever you want (given to you) wrap them up. Dip in the sauce, they even gave us pumpkin like sauce (I like the sauce!!) and goes into the mouth :).

On the bottom left, that’s egg roll, nothing fancy, didn’t really like it.

More Vietnamese Tapas :P.

On the left and right, they are all made of rice, it’s like chu cheong fun you know..but served differently.

On the left, they are put on little saucer, topped with some spring onion, fried pork lard, that yellow stuff I think it’s salted egg yolk or something like that. Typical Hue food.

On the right, they are served on banana leave, sprinkled with some meat floss and God knows what..tasted a bit like dried shrimps. Nice lah!!

Bottom left was the beef variety of the satay, eaten with the rice paper & veg.

And lastly, bun (fat bihun) served with veg, carrot, and some satay meat…

There were actually a few more stuff we ordered, but I was too busy eating..BURP.

Are you feeling hungry now?

So where’s this restaurant? They have like 7 branches throughout HCM. I seriously don’t know which one I went, thought it’s in Nam Ky Khoai, but I can’t find the add in the name card. So I’m listing down 3 of it here which is nearer to where I’m familiar with, the rest are a bit too far.

  • 302 Hai Ba Trung St, W. Tan Binh, District 1, HCMC - I think I went to this one, It’s at the main street, Daiso on the same road as well.
  • 98 Nguyen Trai St, W Ben Tanh, District 1, HCMC
  • 7 Cao Thang St, Ward 2, Dist. 3, HCMC

This is not a sponsored post :P. But who knows, they might just give me free lunch if they finds out that I’m promoting them LOL.

Jun 22

A sun, drawn by Faythe

Apparently alot of bloggers went to Penang during that weekend. But Penang must be so big…cause none of us bump into each other despite the fact that some of us went to the same foodie place to fill our stomach :).

We were in Penang for some family gathering on my in laws side. We’ve not been to Penang for almost a year, since Mr. Hon is also back, so I took off 2 days to go Penang, but we only went 3 days, came back on Sunday…big mistake, should have come back on Monday, cause it was so jam!!

Took me 6.5 hours to reach PJ :(. Legs all aching, somemore I’m driving a manual car..yes ME, not Mr. Hon. He’s either dating with chau kung 80% of the time, or listening to his songs on iPod with his sound proof (dunno what expensive) earphone he bought from Japan till I had to shout and waive at him whenever I needed him to help check the kids etc. Occasionally, he’d asked if I’m OK or not. I prefer to drive, cause I can’t sleep in the car, and I have nothing to do as well, didn’t load my iPhone with movies whatsoever. I can’t read map either, so usually he’s the navigator, I’m the driver.

Anyway back to the trip:

DAY 1: 11TH JUN

Woo Kok is also a must.

We left at 630am on Friday, very early. Made our usual stop at Bidor for Herbal Duck Noodles. This trip, we drove 3 cars. SIL & MIL 1 car, our car & Lawrence family. Both of them enjoyed the noodles, especially Faythe.

That’s how much my breakfast cost :).

Jayden with his Ironman sign

Herbal Duck Noodles

Vyktore, looking a bit worried cause he has to eat noodles

My nephew nick named: Samson. He has curly locks, how cute.

Then we continued our drive to Penang, finally arrived at around 12pm, just in time for lunch. MIL brought us to eat somewhere, don’t know what Jalan lah…makan only. After that, went to Northam and helped MIL to check in since it was booked under Mr. Hon’s corporate rate. We didn’t stay at Northam cause Mr. Hon wanted to go to beach, so we stayed in Flamingo by the Beach Hotel together with Lawrence’s family.

Part of the hotel room. Quite spacious I’d say, with a nice view too. Only thing is bathroom is a bit small, no bath tub. Only shower.

View from the balcony…clean beach, phew…

Kids watching the fishy swimming

We got a pretty good deal online, RM190/night. Refurbished hotel, sure very spanking new lah..no musty smell :). So after check in and freshen up, we went to pick up MIL & SIL and drove to Bukit Tambun for seafood.

Bukit Tambun Fishing Village

I got pretty p!ssed off with Mr. Hon as he was giving directions in the car how to get to Bukit Tambun, but he never give warnings, all a sudden turn left, all a sudden U-turn, and we kept going wrong directions thanks to him. MIL knows the direction, but he insist to use the bloody GPS, which sometimes is slow to get signal, so by the time signal recover, it’s overshot…arghh…Also driving in Penang is not easy, the drivers there are 100 times worse than KL ppl.

After braving the storm & rain, we finally reached Bukit Tambun, with my face black like Hokkien Mee. Luckily, Mr. Hon quickly made up for it, if not I think he will be eating Hokkien Mee fried with Horse Shoe Crab at that restaurant courtesy of me.

Monkeying around while waiting for food to be served.

We had tea there, MIL ordered some steam mantis prawns, horse shoe crab and a few more dishes. First time Faythe eating steam mantis prawn, she sapu 3!! Vyktore didn’t eat, he wants rice, but we didn’t order, cause we have dinner at Nyonya Breeze later on.

Thanks Daddy for the shot :).

The restaurant which we were dining at is also next to a fishing village. The kids went up the boat and took some photos there. We also saw monitor lizard on the other side of the river bank.

Seriously, they look like some China people just successfully smuggled down to HK (back to those days)

After the tea break, we drove back to Penang again, this time thanks to the not so great GPS, we reached Northam avoiding traffic jam & drop MIL off. Then went back to our hotel to shower and change.

The night before, was actually Vyktore’s Birthday. I thought since we are going to Penang, might as well celebrate there. Hence I ordered a chocolate cake from Shervone. Thanks Siew Hooi for the contact :).

Shark Image cake

Vyktore wanted a Shark Cake. Hence I downloaded a shark picture and sent it to Shervone to get it done. He was so happy when he saw the cake. He said, “Mommy, I want to cut the shark’s tail and eat it” O.o.

I got Shervone to send the cake and asked reception to keep it, so when we check in I’ve already checked to make sure the cake is there.

One for the family. Everyone was busy trying to do something instead of looking at the camera LOL

So we left for dinner, heading to Nyonya Breeze, to meet up with SIL, MIL & MIL’s friend’s there. We celebrated Vyktore’s birthday there and he had 2 pieces of cake. He’s a cake lover, just like me :).

Nyonya Breeze is our usual stop whenever we go to Penang. Simply love the food there. My fav is the belacan fried with cashew nuts and pork/chicken. It’s so creamy!!! Really to die for.

After that, we all head back to our own hotel and went to the beach.

Mr. Hon brought home many kung ming lantern from Vietnam, so we brought 2 to Penang to let go. I know it’s illegal :P, but for the fun of it…why not. We are not near the airport anyway.

So we all went to the beach, light up the lantern and watch it float away. Daddy didn’t bring his cigars, so we didn’t have any e cigarette session by the beach..phew!!

Then we all head back to our own room to watch World Cup match and went to bed….

DAY 2: 12TH JUN

Someone para-sailing by the beach. Did this many years ago.

Had breakfast at the hotel…boy it’s so crowded!!!

Beautiful butterfly

Then hang around the beach till 1030am, then we went to butterfly farm with Lawrence’s family. MIL & SIL didn’t join us. Had fun in the butterfly farm especially Faythe. She went around trying to make the butterfly stand on her hand. The last time we went there, she was only 2years old, she barely remembers that trip. Vyktore didn’t really like it, he only liked the Scorpions which was in the pit.

Her few successful attempt getting the butterfly

We spent a good 2 hours in the farm and Mr. Hon declared, “This my last ever trip to butterfly farm, no more LOL”. We even bumped into his primary school friend. Talk about coincidence.

Vyktore’s favourite section

We were supposed to drive to Balik Pulau for some Durian & Food Fest (Lawrence saw advertisement banner along the road), so off we went, but half way, I think in Teluk Bahang (after passing the dam), we stopped by roadside where there were plenty of durian stalls and decided to just have our durian fiesta there.

After that all went back hotel to sleep. Evening, we went to grand auntie’s house where the family gathering was held. Everyone busy chit chatting till 10pm when finally all left after taking some family photos.

Faythe wanted to sleep with MIL, so Vyktore followed us back to our hotel.

DAY 3: 13TH JUN

Had breakfast in the hotel and sat by the pool for some couple talk while watching Vyktore eating his cereal.

Check out at 11am and went to grand aunt’s house for another round of chit chatting and makan. Grand aunt made fried oyster with eggs..yum yum…

We finally left Penang by 3pm and took us so long to finally reach home.

Mr. Pilot & lil Pilot LOL. MIL bought this lil pilot uniform for him. So cute hahaha…

We’ve learned that we can’t let both of them sit together cause they either keep on fighting with each other for toys, books, or whatever. So we came up with a brilliant plan.

I drive the car, and either 1 of them sit next to me. While Daddy sits at the back with the other 1. This way, they got less chance to interact and have their love-hate sessions in the car. So all the way back, either they were sleeping, snacking or occasionally playing games on my iphone. Very peaceful indeed :).

I was on leave still on 14th June, so we took the kids to KLCC (by LRT, another LRT ride) and watch Karate Kid there. TGV Cinema must be crazy…the aircond was freezing!!

That’s all for the trip, and some photos taken from the trip.

Like I was telling Agnes, I very envy her photos, cause I didn’t manage to do much in Penang. Makan je banyak LOL.

Faythe in the hotel, eating papadam (brought from KL) while watching Nat. Geo.

Vyktore getting comfy on the bed

Kids, trying to get them pose spells H3LL…

Naughty face

Another naughty face

Vyktore, wanted his face to be painted with blue cream (like Avatar O.o)

My model posing for me with her killer pose.

Vyktore, so hot @ the beach he didn’t wanna take a walk.

Faythe, in her quest for more seashells

Vyktore with his pitiful look. He kept pestering me for water, in the end went to the bar to get some ice cold water for him.

Sweats..it’s realll hot!!!

Got a butterfly :)

Some don’t know what insect crawling from the sunnies. We nearly had to bring it home as it was hooking itself on his hand.

Lovely butterflies

I guess I’ll be heading for a break soon unless I manage to schedule some post up these few days. Busy 3 months ahead…

May 14

L-R: Vyktore, Jayden & Faythe posing for a photo. Each of them holding a Ironman Figurine.

Yet another travel post…gosh, when am I gonna finish with my travel post O.o. I think there’s like 3 more backdated travel post I’m gonna put.

So we finally made a trip to Bukit Tinggi, 1st time in my life, after seeing so many nice photos, many nice brochures, nice websites and what have you.

Reason is, Mr. Hon wants to take his bike for a ride and the only way he can do this is going for short trips. And while he rides, I will take our 4 wheels together with the kids & the GPS (in case we are lost). As usual, he don’t ride alone, his riding buddy came along. Since Lawrence & Jayden has nothing to do at home (Angie went for training), so they came along as well.

Our breakfast….

But it’s a 1 day trip OK…no staying over night. We left KL around 830am and started heading towards the highway. Stopped over at Petronas by the highway for petrol & had McD for breakfast.

Daddy mentioned that we should go to waterfall on our way back. Vyktore, 1st time hearing waterfall, thinks it’s very syiok, so he said, “Mommy, I wah go waterfall”. OK…I bet he’d scream when he sees waterfall later LOL.

So we continued our journey after our breakfast and soon arrived at Bukit Tinggi.

1st stop, Rabbit Farm. I recall that we arrived before 10am, hence it was still not open. We were the 1st there.

The cranes that looked like statues to Vyktore :P

So while waiting for it to open, we chanced upon some cranes (I think) that was sitting on the grass over at the other side. Vyktore loves bird, he was so amazed at them. Then suddenly one of them started walking. Guess what Vyktore said….”Mommy, the bird can move…” LOL, sure can lah. They must have looked like statues to him earlier haha…funny boy. He even requested for some photos of him and the birds.

Vyktore taking photos with the cranes.

When the Rabbit Farm opens, we went in. Faythe was all excited when she was able to touch the rabbits. But Vyktore was screaming and refused to come along at first. But after convincing him, he finally came and join the fun. After patting the rabbit, he started to get comfortable and they all had great fun *torturing* the rabbit. Jayden at 1 stage was practically pulling the rabbit’s ears and lifting it up LOL. We were warned by the rabbit keeper to keep an eye on the 3 kids haha…memang pai seh.

Examining the donkey. Vyktore was scared of it.

After the rabbit farm, we went to see the donkeys…which looks so much like ponies. Faythe agreed to ride the donkey as that remembers her of Mulan. But Vyktore refused. Hence only Faythe rode the donkey and we took some photos, but towards the end, Vyktore wanted to get a feel of the donkey as well, so he sat at the back of Faythe.

Oh so crowded French Village!!

Done with the rabbit farm, we head to the French Village. Actually I was pretty excited about the French Village as there would be alot opportunity to take photos. But Daddy was in such a hurry, we just scrambled at the French Village like 10minutes, then went down to see the black swans, fed them with cornflakes *oops* and left the place. Yup, that’s how fast we finish that entire place. Arghhh…I hate it when I have to rush around like this…next time I datang myself and cam* kow kow…

Why he’s in a rush leh?

Well, he was in Bentong few days ago and went to eat this Ikan masak Tempoyak. So he wanted to go there to eat again and he was worried that the shop will be closed when we reach there. Grrr…

Japanese Garden mini waterfall. Jayden trying to open his shirt :P.

So after French Village, we headed off to Japanese Garden, to look see look see and enjoy the greens. Boy, I really wonder if there’s really no where else to go in KL…Bukit Tinggi is so crowded!!! And it’s not even a long weekend…WTF!!

After Japanese Garden, we head to Bentong to eat Ikan masak Tempoyak. It’s about an hour drive from Bukit Tinggi..and I really hated that lunch.

Kids KO-ed in the car as they were so tired walking up the hill LOL. So we actually left them in the car  (with the window open and within our view of course) while we had lunch except for Faythe that woke up and got down with us.

Yucks..I really can’t accept Durian in other forms…seriously, it tasted disgusting. No offence to those that love it, but I really beh tahan…not only me, even Lawrence & Yuen didn’t fancy that. So Daddy ate up the whole plate of Tempoyak Fish!! While we went crazy eating the stuffed green chilli with fish paste and don’t know what and some other dishes.

Faythe enjoying her chocolate ice-cream

Then Seng Yuen told us that his hometown was actually Bentong, so he brought us to this shop to eat have some homemade ice cream..yum yum…

Jayden was still sleeping in the car when we arrived at the ice cream stall, so we brought the ice cream for Lawrence to eat while he babysits Jayden.

Vyktore nose-bleeding with Chocolate Ice Cream LOL…

We all each had our share of ice cream and ice kacang with ice cream. Both the kids had Chocolate Flavour, while I had Jagung Flavour. Daddy had Ice Kacang with Ice Cream as topping. Delicious!!

We left Bentong close to 2pm and started to head home, but we stopped on the way at Hutan Lipur Lintang to go to waterfall.

Walking towards the waterfall

I tell you, Vyktore been pestering me since 9am till 3pm that he wants to go waterfall. But when we arrived and he saw what waterfall was, he refused to go join the fun LOL. Yeah, this his 2nd time experiencing waterfall. 1st time was like 2 yrs ago, I doubt he remembered.

Faythe building sand castle next at the waterfall.

Faythe couldn’t wait but just dive in together with Daddy. She’s been taking up swimming lessons for sometime, hence she’s very into swimming now.

Look at his ker lien face LOL

Vyktore refused to go in and even after I tricked him into putting his feet into the sand, he just wanted to sit on the rock and stare at all of us LOL. So I end up sitting next to him most of the time, and occasionally trying to coax him to come with me to another side of the waterfall where it’s very shallow and the current is slow.

Nope, MCA didn’t cheng us dinner, but so happened Daddy park his bike there.

We spent a good 1 hour at least at the waterfall, then we went to Bukit Tinggi Village to have very early dinner, at 530pm!!

On our way home, we were hit by the rain..poor Daddy, all drenched by the time he reached MIL’s house LOL.

Some photos taken for this trip. Plenty of photos ahead :P. Definitely didn’t enjoy the “rush-ness” of this trip.

Why Jayden look like this? LOL..He was sitting on his chair, then it suddenly fell backward but he landed on the floor seated. Then he gave this look to us haha

Faythe fooling with her pancake

Who ate the pancake!!!

Have a nice weekend everyone…I’m taking my 2 kids for movies again this weekend ;).

May 4

Terminal 3 CGK. This side of the airport looks so much better than Terminal 1 & 2.

After my 2 weeks ordeal-biz-trip in Jakarta, I extended my stay and flew to Jogjakarta. I’ve initially plan this earlier in Feb when I was planning my Jakarta trip, so I couldn’t cancel it last minute although my stay in Jakarta was pro-long. My very own self-trip to Jogja.

Took the earliest flight, departure at 6am O.o. Yeah, it’s crazy…I arrived in Jogja at 7am. My hotel was only a stones throw from airport, by 8 I’ve already check in. But since the room weren’t ready, I can’t go refresh myself :(. And hotel staff suggest that it’s still early, I can probably finish visiting some of the places today instead of waiting for tomorrow.

On the way to Ratu Boko, you can see paddy fields…I love paddy fields, beckoning against the clear blue sky.

RATU BOKO TEMPLE

Hence I rented a taxi to bring me to Ratu Boko Temple. This place apparently it’s really good and everyone around me tells me I have to go (those hotel staff & driver). But I tell you, the moment I walk pass the entrance of the Ratu Boko, I felt that I was cheated. They charged me USD10 for entrance. So I thought it must be something good lah right. But seriously, it’s not worth USD10. USD5 also I think more than enough.

The entrance looks so grand, but behind there there’s nothing..sigh…

From the ticket counter, you have to walk up hill for about 500m I think, before you reach the entrance of Ratu Boko. From where I can see, it looks great, cause there’s a huge entrance greeting you. But the moment I step my foot at the entrance, what I saw was just a piece of empty land, with some ruins here n there.

When I say some, I mean just some stones & rocks here n there, partially restored…There were also some area like Candi Pembakaran, which is fully restored, but there’s nothing to see inside. Adui…Almost terpengsan for paying USD10 for this!!

Top left: Wideangle view from the shrine, that’s Ratu Boko!! So empty right.
Top right: some stones…reminds me of stonehenge UK
Bottom left: VIew of the entrance from the inside
Bottom right: More stones…incomplete ruins

Then I walk further in to my left, there was a shrine up the hill under some shaded trees, and that’s all.

Seems like the only interesting thing to photograph was the entrance LOL. I took side view, front view, back view and even sun flare view LOL.

When I came down, there’s another trail on the right and you can walk very far in, to some other parts of the ruins, but like I say, this temple is not fully restored, hence there’s nothing much to see. Even the stones are lack of carvings to talk about the rich history.

Top left: Steps coming down from the entrance.
Top right: More runis at the other side, but I didn’t go to see, just took pics from far.
Bottom left: Spotted some lalang and decided to take a pic of that.
Bottom right: Prambanan Temple, taken from Ratu Boko.

I only spent about 30-45mins there, then went back to the ticketing area, where I got my free drink (part of the USD10). I think the most breath taking part of Ratu Boko is the location of it. You get a very good view of Jogja, can even see Prambanan Temple from there!!

After that, I head to Prambanan Temple, which is not far from Ratu Boko. My driver is supposed to bring me to these 2 places, but he kept on persuading me to go to Borobodur together on the same day and just charge me 650,000Rp. Still considering while on my way to Prambanan Temple.

PRAMBANAN TEMPLE

This is a Hindu Temple, which I read from internet, known as one of the most beautiful Indian Temple in the World O.o *eyes big big OK*.

So I was thinking, it better not be disappointing like the Ratu Boko.

The entrance fee for this place was pretty cheap, Can’t recall how much though. But was definitely cheaper than that Ratu Boko.

photo taken from far, sky was great I tell you!!, side view

From far, before I came near to it, I already can spot the greatness of it…erm, I feel more worth it OK :P..Cause I see the whole 5 temples there and there are alot of people. 1 thing about their temples, they are always located in a big garden/forest/park or whatever you call it. So usually you spend sometime walking around the garden before you reach the actual temple itself.

Taken from the walkway heading towards the entrance. I waited for at least sometime here for the crowd to clear so that I have minimal human in the photo. You can see the right side are the collapsed parts of the temple due to earthquake.

As I approach the temple nearer from the front, only 1 word. AMAZING!!! SPEECHLESS!!!

It’s a pity that the recent earthquake (few years back) affected this amazing temple. Some of the smaller temple collapse due to the earthquake & they are still working to put the pieces back together.

See, me standing on the viewing/photographing deck. Good idea!! On the top bottom photo are the stones they need to rearrange back O.o.

Another highlight of this place is the viewing/photography deck ;). They actually built a deck (some stairs up to a platform) for you to be at the same level as the temple and you can take photo..muahaha…cool right.

Of course I must get a photo of myself with this temple behind me, as a proof that I really went there :P. Got a angmo couple to snap the photo for me.

(some of the stones with carvings)

There’s a total of 5 temples, the biggest is Shiva Shrine. There’s a cow inside the temple itself. It’s pretty dark, can barely see. You can go around the outside of the temple to admire the stones that are carved. I didn’t have a tour guide (budget mah), so I just did my readings about this Shrine via Internet.

details of the temples really amazing. I seriously can’t imagine how those people carved such a thing on the stone with bare minimal tools.

The remaining shrines are for rest of the Hindu God. Two of it tourist are barred from entering as Restoration is still in progress. The other 2 you can enter, but I was too lazy cause it was so hot O.o.

took a photo of Prambanan Temple from another view. Nice!!

More stones & gargoyles

The various temples found at Prambanan Temple Site

The Hindu God, made of stone on the temple wall itself.

After I finish the Prambanan Temple, there’s a Candi Lumbung & Candi Sewu at the same park.

Candi Lumbung still in restoration progress.
Bottom right: Candi Sewu. Bet it’s gonna look awesome too once the restoration is completed.

I took a walk to Candi Lumbung. This is still restoration in progress, hence can only view from far. Then it started raining :|.

Good thing, they also provide shuttle service (Indon-version-golf-caddy) around the park, so I hop on it and took a ride to Candi Sewu.

Again, part of it is still restoration, not sure it’s because of the earthquake or it’s newly discovered. Since it’s raining, I just took some shots from the caddy itself.

I finished these 3 places at the same park about 12pm. Quite fast eh…so I met the driver at the exit.

He asked me if I want to continue since it’s still early. Borobodur is rather far from Prambanan, in the opposite direction. Heck, since the weather is so good, might as well.

So off we head to Borobodur. It took about 1hour odd and I feel asleep as I was freaking tired from the morning flight!

Stopped at one of the restaurant for a quick lunch. Since I’m all alone, I only ordered ala carte, no chance to sample all the good food.

BOROBODUR

After that, we continue our journey and finally arrived in Borobodur Temple. Again, this place is located in a huge park. You can walk there, but I reckon you take the in-house caddy..It’s quite far to walk!!

Top left: From far, the Borobodur look so majestic sitting on top of the hill.

Oh, not forgetting, the entrance is another rip-off..If you can pull off as a local, you only pay like 35,000Rp. (USD3). But if you accidentally blurted out your country of origin, you are charged USD15!! So it better be good right…I almost sneak in as local, but I blurted out I’m a Malaysian (thought we kawan with them, can get discount), but heck I had to pay the USD15. So be pandai pandai OK.

At the bottom of the Temple, got someone to take a photo of me as proof LOL. There’s a board explaining the detail of each level and how many stupa there are all together.

On my way to walking up to the temple, I could feel the sun burning me. I didn’t put on any sunblock, I didn’t have any umbrella. I look like a lobster after my Jogja trip :P. *Sweats*

I really admire how they preserve their UNESCO Heritage. You can really feel that they feel so proud and honoured about this. No vandalism at all, no rubbish. You know they have speakers installed around the base of the Temple, they can even spot you trying to climb on the sides of the temple to take photo. They will sound you nicely when you do that LOL. They don’t even need to place a person at each level, but everyone takes good care of it.

Borobodur is a Buddhist Temple.

The monument comprises six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. A main dome, located at the center of the top platform, is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues seated inside perforated stupa. - Taken from Wikipedia

When I’m almost at 6th level, I took a peek at the main dome. Waited for the humans to clear to take this photo.

Another one word: AMAZING!!! AWESOME!!

There’s also instruction given how to walk thru this temple so that you understand all the stories carved on the walls of this temple. But I didn’t get a guide, so on and off, I just stood next to some tour group to curi dengar some cerita LOL.

I took quite long going thru the 6 levels, I think at least 2-3 hours, that my driver started SMS me asking if I’m OK. LOL. Aiyo, of course I’m OK lah. But you know when a history freak+photographer comes here, she could spend hours just taking photos and admiring the beauty of it.

Countless stupas…facing the mountain

Finally when I reached the last 3 levels where the stupa was situated, I’m speechless. Not only the structure itself is amazing, the view from there is simply amazing too!! When I was at the highest platform, my eye to eye level is facing the Gunung Merapi, still active Volcano. Psst…I’m also a lover of Volcanoes haha..

By the time I finish taking photos, going wah wah for so many rounds..it was already 4pm and my driver was getting impatient :P.

Took me about 2 hours to get back to hotel. Finally after a tiring but fruitful day, I got into my hotel room and terpengsan.

Next day I didn’t do much, just laze around.

On Monday, I visited Service Centre at Jogja to do some office work before I head back to hotel. Seriously, I would have left on Monday, but there weren’t any flight out, hence I have to stay till Tuesday.

I was too lazy to explore to other places and it was raining too.

Here are the remaining photos of Jogja (mainly taken at Borobodur). If you haven’t been here and you are a history buff, do visit this place. But I reckon 3D2N would be more than enough.

Some of the statues & carvings on the wall.

Some of the statues & carvings on the wall.

Some of the statues & carvings on the wall. All taken at 1st Level.

Each time I move up to the next level, I take a pic of my finger indicating the level no. This is so that when I process my photos later, I know that any photo after the finger is belong to that particular level LOL.

Some of the statues & carvings on the wall. At Level 2.

Some of the statues & carvings on the wall. At Level 2.
Back of buddha head vy yau yeng eh :P

Some of the statues & carvings on the wall. At Level 2.

At level 3, there were some gargoyles spotted.
Bottom left: See, I spotted this on the floor. It’s made of gold i think. Don’t know what it symbolizes.

At level 3, more buddha statues as we go higher.

Carvings on the wall.

Level 4, almost at the top :).

Level 5, more gargoyles spotted.

Level 6…

FInally reach the top where all the stupas are…makes me think how they actually build this so structurally. Even the shape of the stones amazes me. It’s perfect shape!!

Closer shot of Stupa. In each Stupa, there’s a buddha. Supposingly if you manage to touch the buddha, you will be lucky. I didn’t want to be left out as well, hence I touched one of the buddha too hehe…

Close up shot of the stones used to build the stupa. Hard work to form these shapes man ^.^.

Between the Stupas, you will see Gunung Merapi. On top of it, looks like some snow covering haha..

Top rigt: Took a snap of the Buddha in the stupa.
Bottom right: Poor angmo, he must have been so tired LOL.

That’s me!!!
Bottom left: At the bottom of Borobodur. Look at the foundation, so solid and well kept.
Getting dark so I played with some settings to capture the yellowish cloud.

One of the stupa was taken out and the buddha head & body is exposed.

Another view of Gunung Merapi from the top. Breathtaking!!

One last shot of Borobodur, taken when I came down all the way fromt he top. Coming down was tough, cause the stairs are quite steep, like 60 degrees.

I truely enjoyed myself visiting both the places & taking loads of photos. I don’t usually get to do this when I travel with Mr. Hon.

Took so many photos, I think I need to do slide shows for this.

Apr 6

Last friday, SIL sms-ed to inform me that Faythe’s classmate been contracted with H1N1. But school at that time didn’t take any actions. I checked with SIL (also a paed) what we should do. She advise that we should give the kids flu jab, just in case.

Today I sent them to school as usual, at 10am, I received a call from the principal. Usually when I get a call from school, I sort of panic. Cause I’m worried something bad happened to them. Maybe they fainted in school O.o. Maybe they had nose bleed (which they often do) & it went out of control. Then the principle told me that they need to quarantine her class, so I need to pick her up.

Good thing I didn’t have any meetings on this morning, so I went to pick her up. Teacher gave her tonnes of homework to make sure she’s occupied O.o.

2 hours later, MIL sms-ed me, Vyktore is also under quarantine, since he has close contact with Faythe. Yikes!!! Do I have to quarantine myself too? I checked with my HR mgr, not necessary, since we don’t have any fever.

They are both fine, in fact I think they are happy they don’t need to go to school, especially Vyktore. Vyktore has a bit of runny nose, but that’s more like dust allergy more than anything.

Time to boost everyone’s immune system with more Vit C.

I’m still busy tidying up my photos from Borobodur. Looking back at all those photos, sometimes makes me wonder how capable human are. Even before Christ (B.C.), they could build such mega structure. Isn’t it amazing. When I was there, I touch and feel the stones & carvings on it. I could feel the history in me. Well, I’m very much of a history freak. My ambition was to be an archaelogist!! *Don’t laugh OK*.

Can’t live my life to be an archaeologist, but visit to such place really brings back good old history memory :).

Here’s a photo taken from the top of Borobodur. The view, simply breathtaking. That lil triangle hanging in the sky is Gunung Merapi, life volcano. Not a photoshop add-on-mountain ya (in case you wondering :P).

I spent like 3 hours trekking this whole place till the driver got worried and kept SMS-ing me where am I. Seriously, I mean, it’s a historical site OK…you sure gotta spend some time here. And with so much of trekking, I doubt I need to get myself a nordictrack audiostrider 990 pro to keep me going.

Mar 2

Before CNY, I had 2 business trips, one to Jakarta & one to Hanoi.

I didn’t take much photos on both the trips, especially Hanoi cause the schedule was so tight & there are alot of jobs to accomplish.

When I was in Hanoi, it was during Winter. But the weather didn’t even show a single sign of Winter. I think even Genting is colder than Hanoi O.o.

I stayed in Intercontinental Hanoi @ West Lake. Known as one of the best hotel in Hanoi (apparently only Sofitel Metropole can match Intercon - according to Mr. Hon, cause he stayed in Metropole before). But to local Vietnamese Intercontinental is the best.

Yes, this place is incredibly beautiful. A resort hotel built on West Lake itself. It looks more like for leisure than for business. As usual, I don’t really spend alot of time in hotel, so it’s like a bit of waste. But I told myself, last night before I leave, I must take some photos. It’s really stunning. Of course room rates are also stunning LOL.

I took these photos on my last night before I check out the next day.

From far, the Pavilion on 2nd from left is where I stay. The one in orange is actually the bar, where they serve drinks at night.

I so happen to stay at the furthest most Pavilion, hence I get a chance to see the whole resort everyday by walking in and out.

This is the hotel block where it’s joined to the Hotel Lobby as well as other facilities e.g. Swimming Pool, Cafe, Restaurants.

Another view of the hotel block connecting to the gym on the right side. Behind you can see Sheraton Hotel, which is facing West Lake as well. Mr. Hon stays there when he’s based in Hanoi. Good life huh…

This the path I walk everyday while I get back to my room. As it’s quite a distance, you can also opt to take a buggy if you decide not to walk.

This is how my opposite neighbour looks like.

View from my room at night.

And here’s a view of what I see in the morning. That’s Pavilion 3. It looks pretty gloomy due to the winter weather.

Here’s how the room look like. They even have different types of pillow material to suite your needs O.o. TV also bigger than my house TV..haiyooo…

Lastly, the nicely decorated bathroom which I barely touch anything apart from taking shower & doing my businesses LOL.

Well, don’t get mistaken, I don’t get to stay here all the time. But because this trip was decided so late, I barely had time to book the hotel and wonder why, the other hotel in the list was fully booked O.o..so had to stay here.

If you have all the money to splurge when you go Hanoi, definitely should stay here :).

I stayed in Intercontinental in Jakarta too, but it’s definitely not as great as this one. Probably the lake was the deciding factor LOL. Oh…but Intercontinental SG is on par with this too…will upload some photos when I have a chance.

Dec 10

I’ve been on a travelling spree seriously.

After my previous trip to Phuket, then 2 weeks later, I went to Jakarta - for work.

Two weeks after my Jakarta trip, I went to Phuket again!! Yes, we booked our flights & hotel instantly when we came back from our 1st Phuket Trip. But this time round we brought the kids and MIL along.

Daddy left a week after that, and in 2 weeks time, I travelled again O.o. Thank God it’s a short trip to Singapore.

It’s been a long time since I last set foot in Singapore and it has changed so much. I was there for work and it was crazy. The moment I touch down and check in to hotel, I logon to the internet & my boss skype me. Hey, I’m preparing the winter plans, can you get these stuff up for me…and next thing I knew I slept at 3am.

And that continued for another 1 day, before I finally decided that I need a break and spend my night enjoying the beautiful skyline of Singapore.

I’m finally home last Saturday, just to settle down for another 3 weeks, before my last trip of the year, Work & Holiday Trip.

Tell me where to find time O.o. And with the workload that is coming in, I bet I have to plan my next travel probably early February before the Chinese New Year, then resume travelling again in March. *Sweats* My existing luggage bag is also wearing out, I’ve been shopping around for a new one, but haven’t quite found 1 which I like. Probably need to drop by Samsonite luggage boutique next week and look at their range of bags.

This is probably the best time to clock more Kris Flyer Points :).

Or probably I need a Nike BackPack like Swee to pack my stuff hehe….

Nov 3

..have time to blog about something before I depart for my trip last week. But I’m totally wrong! I was so so so busy preparing for the trip, co-ordinating for training that is happening to KL, and many other things that at 1 point I asked myself. What’s going on MAN. Why is there so many things happening at the same time?

Seriously, I’m pretty much exhausted at times that I can’t even think straight. Workload is up to the neck (or maybe up to the head). Each time I take off or travel for work, the email just get more n more. Each day I’m getting like at least 50 mails, which 1/2 of them needs my attention.

Where did I go last week? I was at Jakarta & Bandung to pay a visit to my service partners. It’s really an eye opener. If you think KL is jam, wait till you see Jakarta. You’d probably die sitting in endless traffic jam there LOL. The jam starts right from the morning till late night. Even during weekends, there are cars everywhere.  Don’t forget the high security at all places all time, thanks to all the bomb threats. I shall post some of my photos from Jakarta/Bandung soon, lets hope it’s not gonna take long.

So where did we left last? My Phuket trip still…..Gosh….I have so much to catch up, including our last weekend Halloween Trick or Treat Celebration. Yikes, photos still in the camera!! I think even my camera is feeling the stress cause he’s working day in day out like me LOL.

OK, I’m pretty exhausted with words for now. I’ve been awake since 530am to catch up with some office work. I’m pretty done with it, thought it’s best to post this up before it becomes too *OLD* to be posted.

Here are more photos of the buildings & architecture of Phuket. If you look carefully, it reminds you alot of Penang & Malacca. I didn’t arrange them in sequence (too lazy).

love the contrasting door against the pink background.

an old shop selling clothes or was it a tailor

a temple we visited

another temple we visited. There are plenty of Chinese Temples in Phuket. That’s why it feels so like in Penang.

Signboard in the temple.

I took this photo cause of the contrasting banner against the white washed wooden house.

Bridal shop.

Something that we can never miss when we travel in ASIAN countries…Hawkers on bike selling food/drinks.

I can’t recall if this a restaurant or boutique, but I like how the windows. Look, both sides are different LOL.

Another view of Classic Barn.

A shop selling 2nd hand books.

Aged windows

On On Hotel. Would you stay here?

Seat for *raja sehari*?

Window grille. Looks like design from the 70s. My parents’ old house has quite similar design as this.

Anyone wants to buy a Honda Civic here :P. Nah…they only sell bikes over here. I didn’t spot any car.

Love the outstanding lime green shop against the rest of the old shops.

Soi Romanee. I lurve all the arches, the door….simply everything lah..

Soi Romanee…colourful right!! I must go back here again to take some photos in my next trip cause I didn’t have enough of it arghh…

Grille….very old style.

Lock.

AND more locks…

more aged buildings

different designs of buildings

and more…

and more…not forgetting the lady selling feather duster :P

Contrasting effect of the buildings. The pic on my left is one of my favourite cause so happen the monk is there and it sort of matches the colour of that shop.

On the left, a restaurant. That picture is so so so old, probably taken like 60s?

Another temple we frequent during our visit.

more buildings in Phuket

Clock tower in Phuket town.

Need I say anymore…

Ahh…I’m so so so in love with the architecture of each building. I couldn’t get enough of it man. In the end I have to give up, cause Daddy says it’s all the same.

Daddy decided to leave me behind cause I’m too slow LOL.

A few more buildings to go.

A shop used to sell Panasonic products I supposed?

Soi Romanee. Nice ya this street!!

I think the one on left is Soi Romanee. The one on right isn’t.

Whoa….finally it’s the last photo. If you spend a lot of time admiring the architecture in Phuket, you probably can’t finish the town in 1 day. We took like 1/2 a day to comb the whole town.

Guess what, we are going back to Phuket this month. This round with the kids. Lets hope I won’t be taking more photos of the buildings.

Oct 12

My flight no. Good thing the flight weren’t full. Thanon Yaowarat, that’s where we had lunch the next day

Yup, we went to Phuket for a short holiday (just Mr. Hon & myself). Yeah…that banner up there is taken in Phuket, not Australia or Japan :P. Well actually, we were supposed to be at Taiwan for 9 days holiday. But I regret big time after getting the tickets cause then I realise I can’t be away for so many days (and the tickets were so so cheap *sob sob*). So we cancel our Taiwan trip and head to Phuket instead. Lets hope I can go Taiwan next year.

KL view, taken from the flight

Mr. Hon book our tickets to Phuket, via AirAsia. And 1st time do booking, already make a big mistake. He actually booked the 2 tickets separately, thinking that he can cheat the system to get the cheap ticket, but he didn’t know he actually booked both tickets at the wrong timing *EMO*. So he went there noon time, but my flight was night time…DUHH!!

So there I was, alone taking the flight to Phuket..boring!! Daddy rented a car for 900THB/day. In Phuket, you either stay in Patong and forget bout the transport OR get a bike/car to go around. Since both bike & car cost the same, he opt for the car. Moreoever it’s raining season in Phuket, so better to be safe get a car. He came to the airport to pick me up.

We didn’t have any GPS, but he already round almost the whole island while waiting for me to arrive, so he more or less knows the road with the help of the map.

Our hotel from the outside.

We stayed in Kata Beach Resort. Less noisy, less crazy. We got a good deal from Late Stay website, 1 night for 2550THB incl. breakfast. Normal rates @ 6000THB. Hotel, it’s OK, nothing grand. But apparently it’s the only Resort at Kata which is facing the beach. Even Club Med which is next to our hotel doesn’t have their own beach. I’d say the sea over at Kata is more calm compared to Patong. It’s also cleaner.

It was already 9pm by the time I check into the hotel. We drove to Patong to have a taste of their *Night Life*. Seriously, it’s nothing much. Endless ah kua dancing around. So many people drinking. That’s about it lah. I didn’t bring my camera, no photos of Patong at night :P.

We went back to rest by 12am. Must admit we are getting old. All this clubbing really out for us LOL.

Next day, we left the hotel after breakfast. Head straight to Phuket Old Town. Though Thailand has never been conquered by any foreign countries, this Phuket town is rich with Western Influence. At one glance, you feel yourself back in Penang/Melaka. This little town resembles that of British Straits Settlements i.e. Penang, Melaka & Singapore. They call this Sino-Portuguese. I’ll post more about their architecture in a separate post. There’s just too many photos to fit into 1 post :|.

And being a person that admires historical buildings, I just can’t help myself taking photos of almost every other shop house LOL. Until Daddy had to tell me to stop and go, cause to him they are all the same. But in fact it’s not.

Daddy patiently waiting for his food. The man wrapping popiah

We parked at the roadside and had lunch at one of the streets (Thanon Yaowarat) in Phuket Town. Simple lunch comprising of: Popiah, Pork Satay & Hokkien Me (Phuket Style). Simply delicious.

Delicious popiah served with sauce

After our lunch, we started our walk around the town with our Manual-GPS (Daddy reads the map) :). I do all the photo snapping haha…..

Our 1st stop, Thai Hua Museum. It’s a pity the Museum was closed for refurbishment. We only manage to look around the ground floor. Our guess is that this used to be a Chinese House or something. It has a Classroom, and some other rooms with exhibits.

The classroom. Mr. Hon pretending to be a teacher LOL

That’s how the classroom looks like. 2nd pic, a clock tower at the roundabout. I’ll talk about this later.

But it never stop us to have some camwh*ring session outside the Museum haha…

that’s me. Gosh..I look so fat :|

that’s Mr. Hon, pretending he’s to be a scholar LOL

A beautiful old-aged Chandelier in the Musuem. 2nd pic, a lil cupid on the roof (one of the buildings)

We continue walking along the road. Actually we just simply walk and lookaround and take photos. We don’t really have a aim where to go. It was hot, but good thing it’s windy.

can’t remember where was this, one of the buildings we went

at one of the temple, we saw this on the left & right of the Chinese Temple.

There are a lot of Chinese Temples in town. We visited quite a few. In fact they are very well maintained compared to those in Malaysia.

Continue walking somemore. Came to On On Hotel. A backpackers inn. Pretty rundown, I for sure won’t stay here LOL.

Then we came to Soi Rommanee. The Love Road. *Phe-wwiittt*. I like this street alot. I’ll post more photos on this road in the next post. For now, only 1 photo, of me at Soi Rommanee LOL. I

love this street very much because each of the shop is preserved very well and painted in vibrant colours. Absolutely great spot for photoshoot. If I ever want to take portrait photos for my family, I’d sure want to take it here :).

I didn’t manage to take alot of photos here cause Mr. Hon was hurrying me and he refuse to go in…..arghh…

Our desert

Since it was so hot, we stop over at a shop to eat jelly ais. It’s like ais kacang, minus the: kacang, jagung, cincau, cendol, gula melaka. Basically it’s just jelly, ice & red beans with syrup.

The uniqueness of Phuket Town, some of their walkways are tiled :). Here’s 1 of it. Very matching with my Ipanema sandals LOL.

After our desert we walk somemore. By then we are almost done visiting every nook and corner of the town. Our next destination, eat famous Hokkien Mee.

We took a drive there. Sorry, I don’t know what’s the place call, but it has this roundabout with a big clock tower. (See pic somewhere above)

Another round of food. This time consisting of Steam Otak Otak. Not as good as KL Otak Otak, but not too bad.

10 sticks of pork satay, served with cucumber & onions. I love their satay. They are thinly sliced pork on the skewer. Very yummy. It’s sure cook because it’s thin. Unlike those here, so chunky and often not cooked :(.

And here’s our main meal. Phuket Hokkien Mee. It comes with half cooked egg like the above. Oysters too!! It’s has some gravy as well. Like our stew noodles. But much tastier :). The gist of this is, you have to add some fried pork skin (I know very unhealthy) on it and stir all of them. You can actually hear the skin popping in the mee.

Pop a spoonful of the noodles with the pork skin into the mouth…..simply satisfying.

that’s the Hokkien Mee Signage. 3 young guys walking at the beach. I don’t remember their face, I only liked their footprints they left behind :P

After the noodles session it was alraedy 4pm. We went back hotel and took a nap. We are definitely pigs LOL. Makan Tidur Saja.

Waiting to be hired. You need to pay 20B to rent the deck chair and 1 canopy.

Late evening we went to the Kata beach, just behind our resort to cuci mata :P. It’s too late to cuci mata actually, cause nobody was sunbathing haha…

The sun sets pretty early, by 630pm, it’s beginning to get dark. Here’s a black & white shot during sunset. Just trying out some new effects.

The beach is usually filled with surfers during peak season. Sept is non peak and considered dangerous to surf/swim. They put red flag along the beach. And their lifeguard will summon you in if they spot you swimming at the red flag zone.

Sunset a Kata. Love the colours.

2nd pic, Phuket Government probably trying out alternative for electricity for the island. Photo taken at the view point. We went here the next day.

We went back and took a quick shower. Then we decided that we should have our dinner @ Kata Beach. So we walk around, check out the price and finally decided to go for Lobsters. 2 baby lobsters @ 680THB. Cheap!!

Here’s our dinner. Lobster cooked in local style. Baked Potato Skin.

Lobster baked with Cheese.

Fried vegetables. They only have mix veg. Everyone only cooks this in Phuket when you order Veg. Aiyo…

Thai Curry. Very spicy!!

After dinner, Daddy rushed back to hotel for toilet break. So I walked around looking at the things sold at the shop at Kata Beach. Then I went back to Hotel and we went to bed early. Daddy claimed that he over eat. Whole night be couldn’t sleep, while I slept like a log LOL.

Next day, we didn’t have much things to do. So we thought we’d leave the hotel late, close to 11am. We sat at the deck chairs by the beach and spent the morning there. Then we left the hotel and went to the View Point. It’s not very far from our hotel. Good thing that we are driving. I doubt I’d be able to read the map if we were riding a bike.

From the view point, you geta  spectacular view of Phuket (Part of it). Furthest being Patong, then Karon, then Kata Beach.

I asked Daddy to take a artistic shot of me admiring the scenery. And this is what he gave me. Pass or not?

Our Legend of Condor Hero

When we were about to leave the viewpoint, we spotted this local with 2 eagles. Pay 100B and take photo with the eagle. Being Mr. Hon, of course he snap this opportunity LOL. Now he can proudly show Faythe, cause Faythe been showing him picture of her with the parrots standing on her head haha…

After that we took a drive, to don’t know where, just bumming around. We came to Rawai Beach. A much more tranquil and calm beach. This looks more like Malaysia.

Ikan bakar Thai Style. Goes very well with kicap.

We had our lunch at one of the shop by the beach side. Delicious food we even went back there for dinner on that night!!

This the fish after it’s been deboned.

Tomyam Chicken

Don’t know what crab is this. But it’s nice. They just steam it. Lots of meat and shell is soft.

Horse shoe crab. Daddy’s favourite. This crab is full of roe. They made salad with it. I find this kinda weird, cause the roe are hard. Not soft like the roe we eat with sushi :P.

2nd pic: Tomyam we had at night, with lobster meat.

Daddy took his own sweet time enjoying his horse shoe crab salad. I took a stroll along the beach and took more photos. I personally prefer Rawai Beach. Even more quiet. More relaxing.

A bar for sale. Any takers?

I wanted to walk out to there, but after a while, I decided it’s too far. Hence I just took a pic of it from far.

People enjoying their food by the beach side.

Looks like Malaysia beaches right LOL.

Closer shot of the fishing boats.

Then we scan thru our map, and spotted the Shell Museum. We drove around, high and low, nearly give up and some what lost, and finally bumped into it haha…

A shell fossil shaped of a unicorn

Why must come here. Well, I promised Faythe I’d collect some shells back for her. She’s crazy over shells thanks to Little Mermaid. I didn’t spot any by the beach the day before. So I thought it’d be good if we can go here and purchase some shells for her.

One thing we like about this Museum, it allows us to take photos haha…Here are some of the photos taken of the shells.

All the shells are kept on display on transparent holder. And a glass frame goes all around . Very well designed for photography purpose :).

Odd looking shell.

Shells framed in circles. Very creative. I took this short from the botton to get the view of the shell in circular mode.

Giant shell

Don’t know what species. We were too lazy to read thru, just look, *WAHHH*, then next, then repeat the whole process all over LOL.

Shells with polka dots pattern.

Shell that looks like a purse. Arrangement of all sorts of shells.

Don’t know what shell.

This I remember. They are from the land. Usually found in Forest. Cool eh.

this one if not mistaken is forned from many many shells stuck at some rock.

this looks quite common

I like this, pretty cool eh.

looks like snake skin LOL

Striking orange one!!

A giant shell. I think Faythe can even sleep in it!!

There’s really like 1001 types of shell. All sorts of shapes. The more I see, the more dizzy I get. By the time we are done, I have shells all over my head.

We bought a packet of shells with all sorts of colours for Faythe and left the place. Went back hotel, took a rest and head towards the beach.

Our mission, to dive with the wave O.o. After a few rounds and drinking some salt water, I give up. I sat by the beach while Daddy enjoyed himself with the wave.

After that we went to have dinner at the same place we had lunch. Again we order lobster. This time sashimi style.

We also ordered grill chicken & steam snail. Each of these dishes comes with different sauce for dipping. Of course sashimi goes with Wasabi & Soy Sauce :).

After dinner, apa lagi, went back hotel and pack. SInce next day we are leaving. Though it’s at night, better start packing.

Next day, we lepak around the hotel till check out. Dump all our stuff into the car and drove to Patong Beach. Went to Junk Ceylon Shopping Mall. It’s a Mall that looks like the Curve.

It rained heavily all of a sudden. So while waiting for the rain to stop, we went for Fish Spa. Extremely cheap!! We paid 100THB for 15 minutes!!

Phuket Tuk Tuks.

Their walkway with tiles.

Then we walk around Bangla Road. Nothing much to buy. All ready to slash us with a high price. We had lunch in the car. Mr. Hon suffered from over-eating for 2 days haha..so he said last day must eat salad. We went to Carre Four in Junk Ceylon, packed some salad from the salad bar.

After that we spin off to the Factory Outlet. This is a brand new factory outlet along the way to Airport. He spotted this the other day while waiting for me. So we decided that we should go here and shop till we drop before we board the plane.

Well, I didn’t shop till I drop. But my jaw almost fell off, that’s for sure!! They were having sale. So cheap O.o.

  1. Original Crocs - going as low as 600THB (RM60 our currency!!)
  2. Original Levi’s - going as low as 890THB (RM89 our currency…OMG….*fainted*)
  3. Ripcurl, Lois Jeans, and a whole lot more…..can’t remember so many
  4. Original Nike
  5. Original Adidas

I didn’t go into Nike & Adidas, but Daddy did and bought a pair of shoes.

There were some other brands too. I bought 2 tops. There were also Warner’s Brother Studio Boutique there. We bought Transformers T-shirt for Vyktore (50% off).

After all the shopping, I packed the luggage nicely and we went to the airport.

We arrived in KL at 12am. And next day gotta go back to work…..tiring…..

That’s all for Phuket. Don’t mind going back there again with the kids.
