After moving back to Kepong, my life changed tremendously. I became much happier and optimistic. I also began to accept the fact that I don’t have to lie about my Mom’s absence anymore. I’m more open to tell people about it now. Not that I want sympathy from people, but I’ve had enough of lies.
2 years went on, I completed my SPM. I didn’t do as well as PMR but the grades are more than enough to go for Form 6. I couldn’t decide if I should go for Form 6, as there wasn’t much subject in Uni which interest me. Bet you will be surprise if I tell you, my ambition is to be an archaelogist. My brother told me, archaelogist ah…in Malaysia what’s there to dig? Human bones got lah…
I felt pretty lost. Didn’t know what course I should take. And since Dad doesn’t have money to sponsor me for overseas studies, I opt just to go on working. I worked in a Quantity Surveyor Firm as Research Assistant. Most of my friends further their studies, either Form 6 or University. Either engineers or doctors. Yes, most of my classmates are top student in the school, so they either end up being an engineer or doctor.
After working for 2 years, I began to get bored. I felt that I’m not moving anywhere. I can’t be a Research Assistant for life!! Started to look around. I’m not a mundane person, so things like secretary and accountancy is really out of my list. I can’t be engineer and doctor too..too poor in physics and biology. I hate physics!!
Somehow or rather, I ended up in IT after visiting this college in Damansara. The best was the payment was montly installment. This means I don’t need to take a hefty sum out. I told Dad that I wanted to further study. He supported it. I used the money that I’ve saved when i was working to pay for the initial payment. Dad promised that he will help me pay every month.
I was very happy to start college. Everything was so exciting. I even got myself a part time job as lab assistant in the college. That allowed me to earn some extra money. I don’t have to rely solely on Dad to provide me.
I completed my Diploma in a year time. I was all so excited to continue Higher Diploma. Furthermore, I was actually appointed as the head of lab assistant. That was when bad news came. Dad told me he can’t support me for my 2nd year. His business was badly hit. I was very upset. Upset not because he can’t support me, but why does this happen to me when I wanted to study so much. I couldn’t help but to accept that this is fact of life.
I went to look for a job. I was lucky enough, my ex-co which I worked as Research Assistant was hiring IT Support. With the help of the manager, I secured the job.
The pay was very little. Didn’t have any increment for more than 1 year. But I tell myself, this is just for experience. I worked there for about 2 years. Every month I work, I safe. Little by little, I managed to safe enough for me to continue my 2nd year.
I started my 2nd year as part time student. It was never easy to work and study at the same time. 3 days in a week have to attend night class. After class, 9pm, I take the bus home. At the same time, I changed job, got a job offer at Arthur Andersen. Since it’s a new job, I had to work double hard to proof to my boss that I am capable.
I completed my Higher Diploma after 1.5 years. In fact, I had pretty good results, 6 distinctions 3 credits. Even better than my Diploma results. I took a study break back then and some bad news hit the company. They announced bankrupt due to Enron and we merged with another accounting firm. At the same time, I got to know this person that brought many changes to my life. Mr. Hon.
Of course I didn’t continue studying for my final year. It’s a hefty sum of RM17K. Didn’t safe enough for that. But my intention to study never dies.
Like I mentioned, Daddy came into my life when there were ups and downs. With him I discover more about life. The good things that can happen in life. The many things which I never had a chance to enjoy when I was a teenage, I now have. I begin to see life in a different perspective. A positive way of seeing things instead of negative. From travelling with public bus, I bought myself a very old car (Daddy’s recommendation). Good enough for me to go to work and back home. All fully funded by myself.
1 years later, I left Arthur Andersen (6 months after merger) for my current company. I took the risk to switch from permanent employee to contract employee as I couldn’t bear the treatment I get in the post-merger company. It reminds me alot of my teenage life. The new boss treats us like step-employees. Yucks!!!
We got married the same year I changed job. A year later, was found pregnant with Faythe. Gave birth to this lil princess in January 2005. Her presence very much brought more changes in our life. We moved from condo to landed property (no space liao mah). We hired a domestic helper to look after her as well when we go to work (I send Faythe and maid to MIL’s house). 18 months later, Vyktore makes his presence in this world.
And there goes my 10 years of life in my 20s. Eh..I’m still in 20s OK, just the late 20s LOL.
Among the 5 of us, only 2 married (my elder step sis and myself).
Among the 5 of us, only 2 further studies (my step brother and myself)
Among the 5 of us, only 1 has children (myself)
And among the 5 of us, I think I’m still the luckiest one despite all the rough patches during my teens. At least I’ve got a good hubby (I hope), a great job in my company, a pair of beautiful kids and alot of wonderful things to look forward to.
