Well, I’m still very much alive here. I’m into my 3rd week without having a maid/helper at home. So far it’s still manageable. 3 weeks ago, when the thoughts of not having a maid came rushing into my brain, I was really upset. Not only by the fact that my maid is returning home (after working with us for 3 years, 4 months), but I was trying to figure out a plan where I could accommodate everyone: office, kids, MIL, hubby.
I tried sourcing for a part time maid for 2 months, but up to the very last day before my maid left, there weren’t any available. The sucking thing bout getting a part time is, no maid agency will give you a part time, unless you get a permanent maid with them. And my agent didn’t have 1. So at my wits end, I played poker with my manager (boss if you read this, so be it lah..). Just to cut the story short, I manage to get my boss’ boss (big boss) on exception that I can work from home for 2 months till I get my new maid (by end of Sept).
So I got a very nice arrangement, morning go office. Noon work from home and manage the kids at the same time. Then I sorted out with MIL, that she will still continue to cook lunch for the kids and dinner, they will eat the same food (I bring the food back home). So meals are sorted out, at least for the kids :).
I was very worried that I won’t be able to do groceries with 2 kids in tow, I stocked up 8 boxes of milk powder (refill pack) and a kg of my kids fav biscuits, and some other stuff before my maid left. Enough to last us till the new one comes LOL.
It was such a relieve that this plan came in perfectly well and so far we are still OK. My daily schedule goes:
- 8-12pm - Kids at School, Mommy goes to Work at Office
- 12-1pm - Kids at MIL’s for lunch, I eat lunch with my colleagues (at the same time KPC about office stuff :P)
- 1pm - pick the kids up from MIL’s. Pack some food back for dinner time.
- 2pm - after shower, put them to sleep. Sometimes they nap 1 hour, sometimes 2. While they sleep, I do my work, sometimes some conference call.
- 3/4pm - kids wake up. Let them play with their toys a bit.
- 5pm - turn on the TV. They will watch some cartoons while I finish off my work and heat up the soup for dinner. Multi-task.
- 6pm - Let them play at the car porch, sometimes they will water the plant, but usually end up like playing water and getting themselves wet.
- 7pm - Bath, and dinner time. I still checking my emails, cause work from home sometimes result in longer working hours.
- 8pm - We are all done. catch up with olympics and then put the kids to bed by 9pm+.
This is what we do on weekdays. On weekends, no more going out from the house since there’s no helper. But I still bring them to the park, early morning, where there’s nobody LOL. My main concern is for their safety. Hence I try to bring them to less crowded places where I can watch over both of them.
Then lunch, I’ll cook something simple, and dinner we order Pizza etc. Unhealthy but then again, not much choice we have.
I brought both of them out for dinner last sat. It was manageable :). At least both sat down quietly and we finish up the food.
On weekends, I’ll usually clean the house. Used to be everyday mopping and sweeping, now since no maid it’s every week LOL. So TV will babysit them for 1.5 hours, then I’ll clean the whole house & change the bedsheet.
I’m still doing laundry twice a week and Faythe sometimes help me to hang the clothes hehe…the only thing I haven’t done is ironing. Still got enough clothes to go around haha….
No doubt it’s tiring, but I’m really glad that things are working out as I’ve planned so far. Sometimes, I wake up at 6am+ in the morning and catch up with some blog reading, etc. I still get some me time in between. I’m still sane at least :P. Good thing Daddy is not around, if not the house will be twice as messy :|.
OK, so much so for the updates, I’m going for another short break. I’d be back in September. Hopefully by then I’ll start putting up all my travelling post. We will be travelling again end of this month. The last travel for the year hopefully.
