What About Woman in Private Sector?

Et Cetera

I can’t stand it anymore as I’ve been hearing news on this for the pass 2 days. Sometime ago, Human Resource Ministry has mandated that government sector Mommies can now take 3 months paid maternity leave. But it’s only for government sector.

I was already fuming why is this only applicable for Government sector. Is it that woman that works with government is more hardworking, but we in the private sector is not, hence they deserve more leaves. I fret NOT!!! Sorry if I am offending any government woman workers. But such decision by the government should at least cover for all sectors, mandating every private sector company. If they give a choice to the company to extend or not to, I am 101% sure that they will not take the 3 months. Which co will want to do that right. Moreover they have to pay you even if you are not working. *Fumes*. My company definitely didn’t give 3 months.

Then 2 days ago, I heard that now government servants (AGAIN!!!) can take 5 yrs unpaid leave to take care of their kids :|. Huh….what kinda decision is this?

  1. Firstly, 5 yrs, I think it’s too much lah…how can you go LOA (leave of absence) for 5 yrs, and expect when you are back you will still have your position. I think if I do that, company will ask me go Holland liao.
  2. Secondly, why why why…only government sector mommies. How bout private sector? Only them needs to take care of their family, we don’t is it? Or they are assuming that private sector Mommies are richer, hence can afford to have maid, so don’t need this?

In my opinion, sometimes this kind of decision has to be made right. Weigh the consequences before you ever even think of making it. Because it sounds really unfair to us woman in private sector. Why is there a double standard? And our so call Woman’s Welfare Ministry…what are they doing in fighting for our rights? They are not doing anything!!! Oopss…forgotten, the Woman’s Welfare Ministry is government, not NGO, so they already entitled for it, so why need to fight for us right.

OK enough of ranting.

  1. *sigh*

Why??? WHy??? Why only for them?

Because of skin colour la. Most of them are in gov sector ma. (sorry if i’ve offended anyone with this comment but…..I have to say it)

    Anyway, 2 lucky to get 2 months….me? 1 month only…*sigh*

  2. When I heard this from the news my eye double rolled and also feel that 5 years is too long….well, only govern worker are people…no wonder no working quality and not productive…

  3. Agree with you whole heartedly! When I saw in the The Star the other day I was fuming as well, but but but… what can we do?

I suppose we women in the private sectors have to leave our kids to learn in schoools while the women in the government sector can have 5 years to bond and teach their kids the “right” values… By then, maybe if any crimes were to happen, it would be assumed that it’s our kids who do it… coz we have no time to teach them ma… haha!

  4. 100% agree with what you said. so so unfair to the lady workers in private sector. actually, the 5 years is for the whole duration of your employment, which means one can opt to take 2 years and come back to work and take another 2 years another time…ok, the more i talk about it, the more jealous, cheh!

  5. I was stunned when I read this from newspaper… wah… 5 years! What the heck for taking leaves that long? Moreover, only government servants entitle this… so unfair and very obvious it’s a benefit for the other skin color. I wish I don’t say the government is unfair but why we are all Malaysian but feel like second-class citizen whenever there are new decision and proposal from the government? So sad… & dissapointed…

  6. Haha..go Holland…:D

If the 5 years plan is applied in private sector…then 2 yrs later I can still apply balik to work with H*… u think they want me ah?? haha… LOL

Very impractical …they never think about what if the mother get pregnant again during the 5 years break. *tsk tsk* ( you know la..they r highly productive)

  7. eh hemm…errr for me I don’t agree for private sector giving the 3 months paid leave lor..why? Cos I am giving out pay lor! muahahahahaa…no lar..seriously, errr I think Govt can do that cos Govt very rich lor, and also Govt Servants have less pay, less annual leave and probably less benefits as compared to Private sector employees. So you got to weigh on that factor too..

  8. Don’t worry, they can take 5 yrs, 10 yrs or 15 yrs…they just pour away their own rice bowl. Later someone else takes their job…then they know how to cry.

  9. wow! this supersedes the benefits australians are getting leh! some sectors are still fighting for maternity leave, but we can take up to one year unpaid, both parents COMBINED.

5 years is too much. mana otak, mana otak?! take 5 years off, then go back work. if there are new things, they take the time to learn all over again. then meantime 3rd year get pregnant, wahh…. 8 years unpaid lor. can??!

  10. I totally agreed with you, Jazz. I am soooo “mmm tai” lo. 5 year in total also too much – indirectly encourage them to produce even more!!!

I really think private sector should offered similar benefit, 5 years too long, maybe somewhere in between, say like 2-3 years also not bad.

  11. Aiya..2 mths full paid vacation..quite good la. Even though here in CA we have 3 mths maternity leave, it isn’t fully paid unless the company is good enough to subsidize the other 40% of the salary. The govt pays 60% and that is before tax. In the end, once tax time comes, we get hit real hard.

As for the govt servants in Msia..sigh, no hope for them. I can honestly say some of them are lazy and this gives them more reason to be lazier in the expense of tax payers money.

  12. aarrggghhh, i agree with you. just imagine 5 yrs wor, come back to work, company also dono go where liow. i also want wor… 2+1 la maybe… 2 mths compulsory and then 1 mth un paid la… at least not so siong for the company ma. but damn, all the gov sectors sure untung and the level of efficiency sure “NAIK” la….

  13. first of all, interesting blog you have! enjoy it very much.

3 mths of maternity leave? in singapore, it applies to every mommy, be it in private or government as government want to increase the singapore population. but each of them oso entitled for the childcare leave, limited to x number of days p.a.

well, singapore govt implement that so as to increase the overall population. our government does that? simple reason. to create bigger gap of the population of their skin color & others. simple reason, govt sector is full of people of that skin & “brain”. developed countries need more people who use brain, ours need more people who can BS more than think.

nothing to be sad, coz i am still proud that i am of this color. LOL

  14. think cos govt sector workers are generally more poorly paid than private sectors…need to give more benefits to entice ppl to work in govt sector……..okokok WHO AM I KIDDING?????????!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahha

  15. Emm…remember when I was in Tiger Bank, we got Union to fight for our right. But in private sector who care, who going to fight neh? Who ‘berani’ be the leader? Any “wintermelon bean cube” who going to protect your bowl of rice?
But I tell you, in European some company did offer 5 years leave to take care kids neh, one of my Principle(France) did no bluffing.
