Before I had kids, my life was pretty boring. Yes…pretty!! That’s because most of my friends are not in KL. Those that are in KL, they are either busy with work, or busy with personal life. And I indulge myself with, buying First Day Covers.
Do you know what is First Day Cover (FDC)? It’s actually envelope, issued on a special day, with some special graphics on it, and comes with a set of beautiful stamps. I don’t collect stamps though, I only buy FDC. And sometimes I’d get stamp booklet or stampsheet when I feel like it (when the design is nice).
Those days, before I knew Daddy, FDC was the only life I had. I’d go to post office every 2 weeks, check on their latest collection, and of course spend my money buying those that I’ve missed out. But soon after I known Daddy, I didn’t have the chance to go post office every 2 weeks. So I resort to buying online and having an account. But I’ve stopped buying FDC of Malaysia, cause they don’t look good haha…I started purchasing FDC from New Zealand, Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong. I got some of it via ebay (Malaysia). That’s where I spend my money and time. Admiring my collection.
But since I have kids, from 1 to 2, collecting FDC seems to be something that has been forgotten. My purchases went from one month once, to quarterly (3 months once). And now it’s becoming like yearly!! That is how sad it has become. I still have the passion and I still love FDC very much. But I just can’t find time.
This really shows how LIFE has changed when kids arrive in our world. I suddenly realize that most of my pass time revolves around them. I’d be looking for activities to play, things to do, than doing my own things. Only when they are sound asleep at night, I’d have my time to do my own work, without any disturbance. And these are all so precious time for myself.
And not forgetting, I have a pile of magazines, which has been sitting there for 1 year, I haven’t got time to clear the stack. Kids…..that’s what life is about.
same thing here lah……i used to bake cakes every single weekend….sometimes up to 4 cakes one weekend! now, i bake diapers only!!!
i also used to collect malaysian FDC but only up to when I was Form 5………do u think they are worth any money?keke

I only got 1 FDC from Malaysia, the one where they launch the first satellite call MEASAT. My bro gave it to me becoz he works there last time. I prefer collecting coins.
I used to collect FDCs and stamps too. And yes, I STILL have those magazines, so I know what you’re talking about.

same here, got a lot of things cant do since the arrival of kids.
Same here too….. first sacrifice for the other half, then comes the sacrifice for our children. I gave up totally on all my hobby, including playing music too 🙁
you are a collectors too? That’s amazing… I collect magazines! Haha!! that’s sampah at home which I’m reluctant to throw away. How come I discovered even more hobbies after becoming a mother?? And yes, no time with even 1 kid at home… *sigh*
Yeah, kids change our lives, mostly for the better *LOL* but sometimes I do yearn for the things I used to do without having a second thought.
altho’ you are pre-occupy by your young kiddies but you still can find time to learn photograhy, to blog, to scrapbook and to earn PPP extra pocket $$ PASSIONATELY and DILIGENTLY.

wow, i need to learn photography from you…..i no good at all in taking scenery. actually i know how to take picture of my kids only-hahahaha.–something we can discuss about when we meet 🙂
Your post reminds me of my favourite hobby too : SHOPPING!!! Arrghh.. nowadays shopping yes… but I head straight to children’s dept or worse, supermarket nowadays. Then then if got time, if bb is not cranky, if bb is not sleepy, dah dah dahh….. then only try my luck on my stuff. 🙁

i used to collect FDC too when i was in school … but it has been in the rubbish bin many many years ago. such a waste huh .. if not i can pass it to you. 🙂
i’m a fan of fdc too, still buying regularly via the standing order account so it’s sent to me each time there’s a new issue. where do you get fdc from other countries? interested to look at them too. totally agree with 2littlefellas…really admire your photos, scraps, blogs. you are another one of those supermums!
Later when the kids r all grown up, u can continue this hobby again.
Life has changed for me too but life with my kids is full of fun too.
Used to collect FDC and stamps too, but after leaving school no time for that. Not to say now.

I believe everyone shall have his/her own passtime and same like you I collected a lot of bookmark when I was young (don’t get me wrong ah, I am still young ok), ya, eveything chang since married until have kids, but worth to change becuase they are treassur for us.
