Have you ever wonder how I can work from home? I’m very lucky to have a very flexible boss and company. Whenever I need to take care of my kids (in case MIL goes holiday), or if contractor comes to fix things. I can always tell my boss I’ll work from home. He’s totally cool bout it, so long as I can finish my work.
Working from home is not easy. My kids will be downstairs, playing with the maid. I’ll be upstairs in my room doing my work. To be able to work from home, you need alot of discipline. Or else you’ll end up sleeping or watching TV instead of working haha. I usually plan the things I’m gonna do when I work from home. Then I can accomplish it when I’m at home. I find that actually I’m more productive working from home, cause you don’t have phone calls, no colleagues coming over your desk. In fact, I work longer hours when I work from home cause I don’t have to leave office LOL.
So how is all this made possible. Just a simple card with a chip embedded. It’s like a smartcard. Comes with pin for each and everyone. I slot it into the card reader in my laptop. Then all we do is launch the VPN software put in the pin, and we are hook onto office network. It’s that easy!! Once we are connected, I have access to network drive, emails & intranet. Of course it’s a bit slow, but I can still do my work while contractor fixes the thing downstairs :). That way I don’t have to waste my leave.
Oh..not forgetting, work from home is also a multi tasking time. While having phone conference, I can walk to the kitchen, get a cup of drink. Dump my laundry into the washing machine. Express EBM while doing conference call (put my phone on speaker and mute). I can also take a dump LOL (make sure I mute mute mute haha). I also eat while I do my work when I’m at home.
So it’s actually more productive. I don’t have to spend time travelling and at the same time, I can do few things at one go. I think the only Mom I know that work from home like myself is Michelle & ZMM. Anyone else out there?

I agree with you that working from home is more productive, because I experience it myself. Plus, for me, I find I am more focussed at home and I can get more things done. So, yep…my name should be up there too 🙂

i use the VPN too but we don’t use the card. Instead it’s some stupid token which has a pin code which changes every half hour. More mafan cos i still need to dial in.

me-lor….hahahaha. as i’m writing this, i’m working from home too. usually i work harder from home …i easily lost tract of time. as you said, no long lunch break, chit chatting-lah… but it’s pretty quiet today. so, can blog hop a little.

You are so lucky to be able to work from home. Have always envy WAHM coz can still earn an income while watching their children grow…best of both worlds. How I wished I could do that too.
So lucky… only if I can work from home… though part of my work can be done from home… another part needs my direct attention. So tough luck… any job openings there??/ heheheh
