Melbourne: Day 4 (Great Ocean Road)

Travelogue

We continue from Apollo Bay, where we stayed overnight on Day 3. As I mentioned, we didn’t book any hotel and we have our very own-do-what-you-like holiday. Hence our next stop (for overnight) is either Port Campbell OR Warnambool OR Port Fairy. Depends on how fast I can drive and how many stops we make along the way.

We started the day early and went to the Marina Club @ Apollo Bay. It was a beautiful & tranquil morning. Some people sitting by the Marina, fishing. We took a stroll along the beach and took some photos there. We also picked up some seashells (which we forgot to bring home later on..grrrr). After that we went to the Tourism Information Center again to check out the stops in between Apollo Bay & Port Campbell to see what’s good to see, apart from 12 Apostles. They recommended Otway Fly. We bought the tickets there (got discount) and went back to hotel to pack our stuff.

We had our left-over Pizza from last night (microwave it) for breakfast and off we went to Otway Fly. On our way to Otway Fly, we stopped at Castle Cove because Daddy saw his dream bike. So I pulled over and let him have a chit chat with the owner while I snap some photos. Castle Cove is another viewing deck where you have the back of you facing the hills & farms, and in front of you is the Sea. Yet another beautiful sight. But the photos there turn out sucks, as it started drizzling and I didn’t realise there were water droplets on my lense (only until later)..grrr…regret for not putting on the lense hood.

We arrived @ Otway Fly when the rain was still pouring. Though not heavy, we waited for a while until it was drizzling we started our Forest Walk. Yup, Otway Fly is walking into the forest, just like Canopy Walk in FRIM. But of course it was not as long as FRIM. We only took about 1 hour to finish this whole walk (actually I did it faster, but I was waiting for Daddy whom is walking so slow LOL). By the time we were done, it’s about 12pm. Wanted to have lunch at the Cafeteria, but since we were still loaded with leftover pizzas in our tummy, we decided to skip lunch and just eat the snacks in our car and head to 12 Apostles. Yes!! We loaded our car with loads of snacks, because of my high metabolic rate, I had to constantly eat while driving to ensure I have enough energy and won’t get nausea.

It was quite a long drive from Otway Fly to Gibson Steps, the start of 12 Apostles Scenic View. All I can say was “Awwwww” when I arrived there and saw had a sneak preview of how 12 Apostles is going to look like. The wind was so strong that I think I’m gonna be blown away anytime (you can see my hair flying in the photo).

After some shots at Gibson Steps, we drove ahead and stopped @ 12 Apostles Lookout Point. This is a must see when you go to Great Ocean Road. For today there might be 12, tomorrow there might be only 11 Apostles left LOL. Seriously, I don’t know how many Apostles are left, I didn’t count, but doesn’t look like 12 nor 11. It was a pretty long walk to the Lookout Point and this is the only place where we see more people. Most of the time the crowd is like 10 or less, but this place is full of human!! That shows how famous it is. This time round, I’m more prepared for the wind LOL. I actually wrapped my head up to ensure I don’t get flying-hair-shots hahaha….But the wind was too strong that I finally give up.

There were a few lookout point @ 12 Apostles itself. Hence we took time to walk from 1 to another and took loads of photos before we left.

We didn’t stop @ London Bridge (another famous rock formation along the Great Ocean Road) as the bridge already collapsed partially and Daddy said he has enough of rocks LOL. But we made a stop after that to look at Lord Arch Gorge. This place is famous for Shipwreck :|. Apparently because of how it’s formed, Ships always missed this part and hit against the rocks over here.

Here, we could go down to the beach itself, which was more interesting to look at the rock formation from the bottom instead of top view or far view.

By the time we finished all the rock formation sightseeing, it was close to 4pm and I knew we have to drive faster. We’ve decided to overnight at Warnambool. We wanted to try Farmstay at Warnambool, but we couldn’t find the turn off to the farm, hence we give it a go. It was a long drive from where we left heading towards Warnambool. And there’s no more seaview while we were driving. It’s all green. Left and right full of Farms & Mountains. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful sight, that Daddy asked me to stopped by the road to take some photos of the cows (for the kids to see) before continue our journey to Warnambool.

We arrived at Warnambool close to 6pm, just before it starts getting dark and started hunting for a Motel to check in. We are not very lucky this time, we went to quite a few Motels but they were not up to our expectation. We finally settled for 1 that gave us a family room. Very poorly decorated with so many beds LOL.

We quickly freshen up and went out for early dinner. We knew the shops is going to close by 8pm. But unlike Apollo Bay, Warnambool seems to be more lively at night. Well, at least the eateries don’t close at 8pm :P.

We parked in the town (which was bigger than Apollo Bay town) and walked along the streets, looking at the closed shops (investigate what to do for tomorrow) at the same time looking for which restaurant to have our dinner.

We finally decided to go for Chinese Buffet, cause Mr. Hon misses his Chinese Food LOL (It’s only 4 Days we didn’t eat Chinese!!). After dinner, we took a drive around town and finally we went back to the Motel and call it a day.

PHOTOS OF DAY 4 HERE.

to be continued…Whale Watching @ Warnambool.
