Upon finding out the baby’s gender, I gave a call to Sifu, a very close friend of mine. He is tasked to give name for baby. When I was pregnant with Faythe, Sifu gave us 5 names, carefully selected from the dunno what book, with all the calculations (I’m not chinese ed, so we gotta rely on someone). Though his occupation is not *Loh Tit Pat* or such, but he has very good knowledge of giving names. His friends whom asked him for names, went to Loh Tit Pat to verify, and he actually concluded that the name given by Sifu is the best. So we all have faith in him :). And as a personal friend of his, I know if he’s given this task, he will make sure he comes out with the best options, a perfectionist I would say. This time round, it remains the same, he will be giving us names to select for the newborn. Hopefully more than 1 name lah. Understand the difficulty in it, especially we have a unique surname like HON.

Below is the conversation we had in MSN, which will also reveal the gender :). Happy reading huh…

J: june 23rd, but give name earlier lah, like in april or may

J: i hope doctor no see wrongly lah
S: u want the name to be strong/soft?
J: hmm..boy should be strong kwa
S: ok
J: must be man man one lorr keke, but english name i having headache lahh..hon wants the name xxx, spelt as xxxthe
S: chinese name for man usually fall under few categories
S: handsome & polite type, decision maker & commander, educated & knowledgable type, strong & powerful type
J: wahhh……kenot want all ah..hehehe very greedy
S: ya lohh, have to decide
J: ok lemme ask hon tonite
J: if strong n powerful, end up like hercules, but not leng chai no girl wants….tak mau lah
J: if handsome & polite, a lot girls after…later me headache pulak
J: decision maker & commenader sounds ok to me…but i also worry later he command me do work pulak hahaha
J: educated & knowledgeable i think i will go for that…but if not handsome, next time cant get wife
J: aiyooo…..no wander pppl say oy name so susah
S: girl is easier
J: yah man…either pretty, polite, educated…that’s bout it, english name for girls oso much easier
S: yup
J: hehe I let u know lah after I ask hon…either these few days or else in March

Yeah…we expecting a boy…yahoooooooo.means I can close shop lorr….fingers crossed, hope doctor didn’t see wrongly, or else *sik jah woo*

  2. yippeee for you, really can tutup kedai liow. faythe cheh cheh will have a di-di(small brother in chinese) now. like egghead said, i wonder when my daughther will arrive too… fat chance cos hubby side Y chromosome very strong!!

  4. haha, congrats! The conversations sound so funny, mummy Jazz so greedy, want to have all the good characters! 😛 Anyway, Faythe’s Chinese name is really a good one! Your sifu shall able to get a good name for your son too!

    I think I am the most cincai one, I name my girl according to my own preference, no caluculation at all. 🙂

  12. Whao your sifu so high tech one, knows how to use Msn one? How much sifu charged la?

    I got bb’s name from Loh tit pat. But according to him, it will be more accurate if you have the full date, time and yr of birth.

    haha, so I was right ler. U must have big nose now. kekekeke!!!

  13. Usually when a scan reveals a boy, there is less chances of mistake but if it shows a girl, it could merely mean little birdie hidden. hehe. Congrats on a pair but no need to close shop so early mah. The more the merrier.

    Lucky you.. Normally, if doctor see boy cannot make mistake lah (seldom), but otherwise can make mistake lah. So, don’t worry..
