40.5 Degrees

Faythe
It was a weekend that Mommy will never forget in her life with Faythe. For no reason, no symptoms, no flu, no cough…but Faythe had fever. It was a Saturday morning, Faythe woke up and was playing with her monkey in her cot while Mommy pretend to sleep, but actually watching what she’s doing.
Then I picked her up from the cot when she started to *bising*. Felt her forehead was hot. Instantly took the thermoscan and check, wow 38.3. Gave her milk and paracetamol rightaway. She went to sleep again. At first I thought it was just mere fever, could be due to teething? There are currently 4 teeth (2 – 1/2 already out, 1 – 1/4 alreadu out, 1 about to appear) coming up, so I suspect could be due to that. Nevertheless, I monitor very closely to make sure fever temperature doesn’t shoot too high. She wasn’t her usual naughty self. But she was more clingy, more tired and slept most of the time.
The temperature went from 37 to 38.5 then even up to 39.5 on Saturday midnight. I was worried sick, but Daddy reassured me she’s ok. I didn’t sleep the whole night, sponging her to make sure her temperature gets down and taking her temperature every 30mis – 1hour, while Daddy happily snoring in wonderland. Once a while when he turns around, he’ll ask how’s monkey-chai. Faythe was sleeping on her tummy on Mommy, I could feel her body heat…it was as though burning from inside. Poor girl.
The temperature just went up down up down like roller coaster throughout the whole night.Sunday morning, I woke up 730am and call SIL. SIL is a paed, so she’s my emergency in case anything happens. Daddy was at work. We rushed over to her clinic (special customer, open just for us :P), check her body, ears, throat everything…didn’t find any suspicious infection or rashes. So concluded could be a viral infection. Probably will go away after 3-5 days, if not we should check the urine and blood. Got some medication from SIL, even had the paracetamol pill type to put into the anus in case she’s too fussy for her medicine consumption. But her fever did not subside. It was still like roller coaster.
It even reached a high of 40.5 on Sunday evening. I almost wanted to send her to hospital, and a sudden flash in my mind. I put her in cold shower, not icy cold water, just direct tap water…she sat down there…ow ow..making sound like so pitiful, at the same time she enjoyed the cold shower. Right after that, her temperature drop till 38……phew…..after that I continued to sponge her in and out while she was resting…At night her fever was much more in control, about 37.5, but still on the high side than normal.Today, she’s still getting fever after 4 hours (medicine effect wears off), so I still administer the 4 hourly dosage of paracetamol to be on the safe side. I hope she’ll be OK by tomorrow. But she’s more active today and almost back to her usual cheeky self.
Now she’s quietly asleep, just gave her medicine at 8pm and her temperature now is 36.6…At last, it’s back to human-acceptable-temperature. I hope this is not a sign of she getting measles or roseola!!

  1. Poor Faythe! Hope she is getting well soon.

High fever for no reason, might be Roseola or viral infection. Yee Ching have Roseola too at 10 months old, 2-3 days fever followed by rashes all over the body after the fever subside, anyway it was harmless!

  2. Get a fever band. At least u can use it whenever she has a fever. I’ll always strap it on Keith’s forehead whenever he has a fever and it does help a lot.

  3. egghead: haha…use at ur own risk hoh the emergency paed 😛

Really hope she’s getting better, for your sake and her sake.

Zara was sick over the w/end too, and just starting to get better now.

Guess who worry sick most of the time? Mummy la. My hubby like yours, can snore loud loud. Asked him to take turns to check Zara’s temparature over the night, he said, “you wake me up ok? I’ll do it” @#$!@#^%!@ Wake him up? Wake him up I can do myself already la.

Anyway, in the end, made him get the alarm clock to wake him up. We took turns, but when he woke up, I also woke up.. since I was very worried.

    How’s she now?
