Trip to Kota Kinabalu

Travelogue

The 4 of us (both parents & kids) went for a 3D2N trip to KK (Kota Kinabalu, not Kota Kemuning or Kuala Kangsar eh..). Before we actually decided on this, I’ve already told Daddy we have to slowdown on this trip. It’s not gonna be like our usual backpack style. We have to go with the children’s pace.

I actually managed to book Nexus Karambunai for the price of RM250 (super duper cheap, normal price is RM700 above). But because it’s so so far…and not forgetting shuttle they provide have to pay Rm24/head, so we decided to scrap off the idea of staying there. Instead we opt for our 2nd choice, Sutera Harbour Resort. Daddy stayed there twice in his previous trip and asked me to book Magellan instead of Pacific. We got it at RM300/nite (very cheap as well). Special corporate rate for AirAsia hehe…and it’s certainly no regrets. I have nothing but praises to this resort except that our room was right far end, so we have to walk like 5mins every day to go to the lobby *sweats*.

17 Nov – Our journey begins…..
We dragged the kids up from bed as early as 5am as we were taking the 2nd flight to KK. We bought tickets on the spot with ID90 & ID75 rates, Daddy paid RM52 for his ticket, whilst mine and Faythe’s cost RM75 each….Vyktore, RM30 flat rate. Both of them were behaving well, Vyktore was so excited toddling around the airport. When he saw the plane, he was all so excited and kept pointing at it every now and then. But by the time we board the plane, I think he was getting a bit sleepy. I hold on tight to him when we took off cause he was getting a bit jittery and hanging on to me. And once we were above ground, he was sound asleep *roll eyes*. It’s the same experience that Faythe had…but Faythe was so cool. She sat on her seat with the belt on. Then she kept herself entertained by drawing by soon after 1 hour, when I was asleep, she too fell asleep after having her breakfast (some noodles we packed and smuggled into the flight).

We landed at KK like close to 1030am and it was raining…arghh..spoiler. I received sms from Julian, we were supposed to meet up to go visit some place. So we checked into the hotel and boy the kids just love it…..the big bath tub…the super king size bed….Faythe couldn’t contain herself but to keep jumping on the bed LOL. Vyktore was busy playing with the lights switch and on and off running into the bathroom. The room had a seaview…very beautiful. We freshen up and took a shuttle to Warisan Square. While waiting for the shuttle at the Lobby, I saw Jaclyn Victor, the winner of 1st Malaysian Idol…phew wwiittt…..what else, faster go and ask her if I can take a pic keke…after that seems like everyone rush to her and take pics with her LOL.

We quickly grab our lunch while waiting for Julian & family to come pick us. We managed to go 1 round around Warisan Square before they arrive. And since it was raining, we couldn’t do anything, but drove to ermm..somewhere slightly outskirt and had Kelapa Bakar. It’s basically, Young Coconut, being toast/roast/burnt under the fire. It came out pretty smoky. You open it up and the coconut drink is warm and yummy…slurpss…very nice, Vyktore had his fair share, but Faythe didn’t like it. We headed back to hotel after that, both families need to put the kids to nap haha…all of us went back and nap and we met for dinner later on.

Julian took us to this dinner place called Kampung Nelayan. Pretty interesting setup. The rest is actually on stilts!! And we got a very nice spot, right next to the stage. They had some cultural dance on that night, Faythe was pretty fascinated with the dances…and even some blowpipe session where guests get to participate and burst the balloon with the blowpipes. After dinner, we stop by the observation tower to have a look at KK at night before going back to hotel. And that was when the rain stopped…..argghhh…so when we reach hotel, instead of going to bed, we took the kids out for around the hotel, right up to the Harbour itself.

18 Nov – More rain…..*cursing*
Woke up like 7am, open the door…OMG…..the rain is even heavier that yesterday ^_^. We went to have our breakfast…..the spread was the usual hotel breakfast buffet, except that this one serves Jap & Korean food as well…I think cause 80% of the guests here are from that 2 Nation..yes trust me…..8 out of 10 people that we see around there are either Jap/Korean. After that, Daddy’s friend (so happen balik kampung also) came and fetch us to the morning market (tamu). It was still raining arghh….so I didn’t really have the mood to take photos and was trying to avoid the rain most of the time. But Vyktore, he was so happy playing under the rain…walking around in the market.

Give up since the rain didn’t stop…we headed out of KK, head towards Tuaran. Daddy’s friend wanted to bring us try the Tuaran Noodles…which turns out quite nice. Homemade noodles, fried and served with char siu. The noodles is very eggy taste. And lucky thing, it wasn’t raining in Tuaran. So we went to the Tamu there instead. Again, Vyktore was very happy, cause he spotted this skinny kitten in the market and kept chasing it *roll eyes*. Faythe wasn’t too active, probably she’s still lack of sleep.

We reached hotel close to lunch time. We took them to the beach(man made) and let them play there for a while, burn more energy LOL…then we head back to our room, bath and get ready for Klias Trip. We are heading out of KK and I’m praying hard there’s no rain. The trip is about 2 hours, so it’s good, the kids can nap, that’s why we burn all their energy in hotel haha……

And true enough, once we board the Van, they both fell asleep. Even myself and Daddy was sleeping on our way to Klias. The reason why we are going there is to see Proboscis Monkey. And at night, we will see fireflies along the Klias River. We arrived there pretty late as there were car accident along the way. Only manage to see 2 monkeys LOL…But I love the sunset at the river, absolutely beautiful. We went back to the base, everyone had their dinner. I gave the kids bananas and watermelon, cause the food was pretty salty. Daddy had his diarrhea session after the dinner…lucky the kids didn’t eat the food. I was OK as usual. DBKL tummy LOL :P.

After dinner, we board the boat once again and cruise to the dark river…We saw plenty of fireflies..some were so bright like a Christmas Tree. One of the cruise member (HK guy) even caught a firefly and the kids got so excited. Faythe put her hand out and let it crawl on her hand, Vyktore was pointing non stop at Faythe’s Hand. Then it fell and Vyktore try to pick it, but instead killed the poor fireflies…oopss…

We head back to KK after the trip, most of us sleeping except Mr. Vyktore Hon..When we arrived at KK, again it was raining…argghh..luckily Klias wasn’t raining. What else, go to bed LOL…while Daddy had his diarrhea moment on and off. And he met up with his colleague that got posted to KK at the lobby and had some drinks. All 3 of us were watching TV in the room. The next day we were suppose to go back after lunch, so I told Daddy we will just wake up when the kids wake (let them fully recharge) then slowly go for breakfast and another pool session.

19 Nov – No more rain *cursing again*
aiyo…..just on the day we go back, the sky is bright, sun is shining….grrr…so after breakfast we headed straight to the kids pool. Let the kids have fun and they did. Faythe was walking up and down, so is Vyktore..Daddy watch them while I went around the hotel and took some photos. We went back to the room, pack our stuff, took shower and check out around 1230pm…head straight to airport. Went to get our tickets…there were only 4 seats left for the latest flight. So we took that cause we have fullmoon dinner to attend at night. The flight was really packed, we got the last row :(. What to do…luckily the kids were sleeping in the flight, same goes to both of us.

More photos of Day 3 HERE.

It was nevertheless a tiring trip…especially when both are cranky and they don’t want Daddy to carry :(. But we enjoyed it as much as the kids did. Our very 1st experience going out of KL without the maid. It’s not that tough after all…
