It took me 3 years to finally decide, I need 1. I have always wanted to get a book with all some the photos of my children in a nicely presentable book. When Pixart came into picture, I was very tempted to order, but they didn’t have the size I wanted. I want a square book LOL. And on top of that, I didn’t quite like their quality, the paper is too thick!! Hence I waited………and finally, the long wait is over when Photobook came into the scene.

So I thought a 3 Year Book will be something that I want to do for my kids. If I do this every year, the problem is:

  • there are 40 pages at least so if I do 1 year 1 page or 2 page, I still have a lot of pages leftover
  • I certainly won’t have the discipline to do it every year..cause I seem to be more n more busy 😐
  • I will certainly go broke by 3rd year since 1 book will cost me RM240 (30cmx30cm size, hard cover)

You see, I’m very particular with my keepsakes…I want something which I do once, and I can keep forever. And I didn’t want the book to look like rojak (some scrap pages, and some photos). I want consistency. I want a month by month for each page to show how my child has grown throughout the years. Basically I wanted alot of things LOL. I forgot to mention, Pixart software definitely sucks. It doesn’t allow you to customise to the type of page you want…I’m very frustrated.

So when I explore the Photobook’s Software, I simply love it, the way it allows flexibility. Yeah, that’s what I want. All I needed is a shop which can help me bind the book LOL…The rest of the artwork, I can do myself.

Hence I started doing 2 page scrap page for each month (cause 1 page is not enough!!). It’s really a painful process, having to start from scratch (when Faythe was just born) and I had to catch up with time, cause I wanted to print it out after her 3 years old birthday (so as to complete 36 months – 3 years).

It’s definitely not an easy task. I think I spent close to 2 months to do all those scrap pages…and not forgetting I redo 3-4 pages cause I didn’t like it after looking at my artwork (yeah…I’m a fussy pot!!).

Finally, it’s ready. The process to put in all the scrap pages into the book was painless. I could finish it within 30 mins LOL. Thumbs up to the software and 24×7 customer support!! I actually called them at 11pm to ask them how to spread the page to 2 page/scrap page just to make sure I don’t do it wrongly.

All 72 pages were ready!! Yeah…read me, 72 pages!! Then the 1st page & last page, since it was a single page (without the opposite side), I was thinking what to put on that 2 pages. Again…I’m trying to be perfectionist here hahaha…

And after 2 weeks of thinking, I finally decided that I should leave it as simple as I could. So just wordings, “Faythe Hon Min Yue, From Birth – 3 years Old” for the front page. As for the back page, ” All Artwork by Jasmine, with my blog add printed”, that’s to credit the Mommy OK :P. Then Daddy can’t claim his credit over this in case I’m not around hahaha…..and the orders went thru…..with the additional payment of USD78 on top of RM240 (I purchased some vouchers last year, buy 1 free 1). Yeah, that’s a whooping sum, fully sponsored with my paid post :).
Yesterday, I got to office close to 10am, as I took my kids to the paed early morning. When I arrive, I reminded myself, I must e-mail photobook and check on the status of the parcel. Little did I know, just when I pull out my chair, I saw a parcel on it. It came from City-Link. My colleague explained to me how that parcel got there, apparently, City-Link (the mail company that is mailing the photobook) is within the same building as my office hahaha…..

What else, I setup my laptop, boot it up and while waiting to login, I quickly open up the parcel and this was my reaction.

OMG!!! *Scream*…..This is absolutely gorgeous!!! (OK, I didn’t scream, but wanted to. If I did, everyone would have thought I’m gila)

I spent my whole lunch time, flipping thru every page, looking inside out for flaws. Gosh…I’m so happy, don’t know how to describe the feeling. Just imagine, the feeling was like I pass my SPM with 10As..haha…yah that sort of feeling :P.

I’m totally satisfied and in fact, I regret and disgress why hadn’t I printed earlier. This is the 1st time I printed my scrap pages in 30×30 size and bound in a book. I simply can’t believe how beautiful it can be.

There’s only 1 complain. Some of the words got chopped off…which I think I know why. So lesson learnt, don’t put the wordings too close to the border.

My verdict:

  • This is definitely the book that I want & I’d recommend to my friends/bloggers
  • Software provided is so easy to use and very flexible – I like
  • The paper quality – not too thin, not too thick. It feels like laminated paper
  • The colours – simply stunning…well of course, it’s printed with HP printer..ahem ahem..LOL
  • The photos – I personally prefer black & white photo over a page of colourful scrap page (I’m a sucker for black & white photos OK)
  • Giving a soft effect on your photo makes the print out even more stunning
  • The pages behind looks better than those in front, cause photos were taken with DSLR πŸ˜› (Trying to poison bloggers to get DSLR haha)
  • Will I get another book – Of course, in fact I’ve started Vyktore’s book, but progress is extremely slow LOL

So what are you, you and you waiting for? Go grab a copy of photobook today and store your children’s photo in there. Ermm…if you want to do scrapbook, do checkout the tutorial section in my blog, I hope it will help you start up at least something.

That was another great piece of news yesterday. In fact, there’s 1 more, I’ll blog bout it tomorrow. So a triple whammy of 3 great news in a day!! I’m overwhelmed!!

  9. So beautiful! You’re really creative and consistent. I’m still trying to catch up a year of picking Sean’s photo to be printed. I wonder how long it’ll take me to do if I start book scraping now . Probably will never get done. LOL =D

  10. That’s absolutely beautiful!!!

You are really good at digital scrapping, your works are really nice!

I have a WIP pending too for photobook and it has dragged me for soooooo long. I am not so creative in digital scrapping.

  11. wow!! worth the hardwork. It’s not any easy task. I’ve been trying to design mine for almost a year now ..”sigh”.. guess I’m just trying to be perfect. I’ll look at my design again and again, change a bit here and there and really the perfectionism blocks my creativity. Well done to your hard work πŸ™‚

  12. Jaz, this is so tempting. I wish to start off another one with Photobook too after the previous one with Pixart.

With my twins coming, how can i miss it ;P

  17. Great work Jazz, I’m absolutely green with envy. I’ve downloaded both Pixart and Photobook softwares but have not started even a single bit. Poor Yiu Yiu doesn’t have even a single piece of photo printed coz mummy wanted to print them as photobook but has nothing to show till now. Haven’t even sorted any of her photos. SIGH!

  18. when i read the part you wanna scream… feel like running over to your place to have a look.. haha.

very tempted but might not have the creativity, skill, time and your kind of endurance… may still try tho’ πŸ™‚

  19. very nice! you really great at keeping the scrapbooks for your kids. I did half way now no time to do already. sometimes i had to think very hard how to layout the stuff on it … you definitely have the creativity … well you are doing this for a living, aren’t you? πŸ˜‰

  20. Very nice..

It looks like those photos close to the binding area didn’t get printed as a whole right?

Aiyo.. I have so many to do ler, I bought tons during the Merdeka sales, haven’t even done any single one yet. Die!

  21. Photobook is by far the best Photobook service in Malaysia. With your beautiful scraps I’m sure it looks stunning. Its definitely one of the best investment… even better than developing the photos in the photo shop.

  22. Hi Jazz, if you dont mind, can I have youe email address?
I want to ask some questions about Photobook. Because I bought one of their package. However for the background, I need to use their template. So I want to find out how you put your own designs into the Photobook? or do you design separately including the placement of photos and just import to Photobook? I hope you cna teach me. Thanks a million.
